Fuck. Blaine pulled the covers over his head and turned to face the wall. He couldn’t believe he’d done that. Fuck… fuck... fuck… he must be going crazy because of his approaching heat. Why else would he be jealous of Professor Douche sleeping with another omega? This was ridiculous. He was never jealous, ever.
A lump formed in Blaine’s throat as he tried to think of something to say. There wasn’t much he could say after that blunt rejection. Blaine couldn’t believe Wayden would fuck someone else when he’d practically offered himself to him.
He closed his eyes as embarrassment washed over him.
You don’t need him, Blaine snapped at himself. There were plenty of alphas in the pack too… but… no buts… you can ask one of them too.
Blaine sighed. He didn’t like the idea of asking another alpha. If he was honest with himself, and that wasn’t often… he wanted Wayden. Wayden was the only alpha Blaine respondedpositively to. He was the only one Blaine had ever been attracted to. The rest were just irritating beasts who were of no use to Blaine. Though Professor Douche was irritating, there was something about him that appealed to Blaine. And he’d fucking rejected him.
Anger bubbled inside Blaine’s stomach. He wanted to reject Professor Douche as he had rejected him. Blaine opened his mouth and said the first thing that entered his head. “Fine. I like that plan. I’ll ask Escala then. He’s single.”
The air in the room suddenly grew tense and Wayden sat so still next to him, Blaine wanted to see his face.
“Why him?” Wayden asked after a while.
This time Blaine did drop the covers from his face, his hackles up. “Why do you want to know? I didn’t ask you about the omega you might choose.”
“There are other alphas in the pack. You could choose them.”
“I want Escala,” Blaine bit out, even though it was a lie. He wanted the alpha in the bed with him. But Wayden didn’t want him. Professor Douche’s rejection stung.
“You don’t even know him.”
“I don’t have to know him to fuck him,” Blaine threw back. Wayden mumbled something next to him that Blaine couldn’t make out. “What?”
“Escala is the alpha of the pack.”
“I know. You say that as if I don’t know. I am very much aware of who he is. Maybe I like alphas in power. There’s just something about the way he leads his pack,” Blaine mumbled salaciously. “He’s big too. Have you seen his arms.”
Wayden groaned next to him. “Let’s just go to sleep,” he said, sliding down.
“Good night,” Blaine said, laughter bubbling inside him. He turned to face the wall, so happy with himself. It felt great to finally score against the alpha.
Wayden moved around behind him, closing the gap between them. The alpha’s warmth wrapped around him, and Blaine couldn’t help but lean into him. He felt Wayden jerk, but he didn’t growl at him to move or shift away himself. They lay like that, with their backs touching.
Chapter 12
Wayden
He was going to kill the alpha.
Wayden watched as Blaine smiled up at Escala. The little devil had been following the alpha all morning. They hadn’t had more snow last night, so it was easier to move around. Escala had his pack in the nearest forest, scavenging for wild vegetables, fruits and hunting for game to add to their food supply. To observe more of the pack, Wayden had decided to join them. And he was slowly regretting his decision because Blaine had taken the opportunity to get close to Escala. They’d been walking around together, foraging what they could from the forest. Blaine laughed and jumped up and down in joy whenever Escala managed to find the smallest thing. From where Wayden stood, Escala’s finds didn’t warrant so muchdrama. But Blaine seemed to be taken by Escala, and whatever the alpha did was amazing.
Fuck.
Has Blaine asked Escala yet? Wayden asked himself as he watched them a few paces away from the rest of the pack. They stood on a snowy hill – a clump of trees their backdrop. They looked good together. Blaine was gorgeous, and when he smiled… the fucking world disappeared. Escala seemed to think so too.
Fuck, Wayden growled as he watched Blaine turn his head just so, to stare up at Escala, his pearly white teeth on display. Escala’s eyes narrowed on that smile. And Wayden could see that the alpha wouldn’t be able to deny Blaine anything. He was going to say fucking yes.
“He’s smiling too fucking much,” Wayden mumbled.
“What?” Ryno, the beta Escala had stuck him with asked, making Wayden flinch.
Dammit. He’d forgotten that the beta was there.
“Nothing,” Wayden said, forcing his eyes away from Blaine and Escala. Ryno pointed him to a fallen tree and moved there to chop some of the branches to use as firewood. Wayden forced himself to make his way there. He wacked the fallen tree, like a man on a fucking mission. He might have imagined the branches were Escala’s thick arms, but no one would know.
Ryno laughed at him. “We can use someone like you during the winter months,” he commented, reminding Wayden of why he was there. For a second there he’d forgotten. Blaine was making him forget a lot of things, making him want things he shouldn’t. The omega was not someone he could be smitten with. He was courting a broken heart and after Ambrose he wasn’t going to allow himself to get into a situation he couldn’t control.
