“That was…”
“Incredible,” Enzo mutters as he pulls my naked body against his once again.
We crossed a line, but I do not want to think about that tonight.
I nuzzle my face in the space where his neck meets his shoulder. His scent is an alluring mixture of cologne and something uniquely his.
I’m fine with just this. He makes me feel safe in his arms—like nothing bad can happen while he’s here.

The morning sun peeks through the space in the curtain, waking me up.
“Mmm,” I stretch out my hands to pat the space next to me.
Empty.
I shoot up in bed.
Did he leave?
Last night was…amazing.
But that’s all it was, one night, since Enzo left without telling me goodbye.
I throw my head in my hands, groaning.
I was just another one-night stand for him. What was I doing expecting anything more?
My mind is tying itself into knots, so when my phone rings, I pick it up immediately—thankful for the distraction.
“Quinn, honey,” a warm voice greets me.
“Dad.”
“How have you been?”
I sit up straighter in bed, covering my chest with the duvet even though there’s no way he can see me through the line. “I’ve been good, Dad. I’d been meaning to call you.”
It has been a while since we last talked.
“Then I must have read your mind.” He chuckles. “Where in the world are you now?”
“Oh, you know, just working. You know what it is like.”
“I do. I am taking a page out of your book, too and seeing some of the world.”
“Is that right?”
“Yeah. My friend, Chet? You must have heard about him from me. Well, I am going to go see him.”
“That’s lovely, Dad.”
“Would you like to come?”
I press my lips together. “I don’t know…”
“Hey, I know that it’s a little last minute, but I think it’ll be exactly the kind of break you need.”
