Page 77 of Courting Mayhem

I jumped in front of Derek. “If any one of you hurts my mate, I will kill you.”

“And believe me, she’s quite capable of killing you.”There was a hint of laughter in Derek’s stern voice.

The older Askole warrior ambled up. “I have deactivated theneural blocker, my lady.”

“Thank you.”

He spat some Askole gobbledygook at the other warriors.

A horrified look on their faces, the warriors picked up their unconscious friends and zoomed away.

Derek stiffened and quickly clamped his right arm to his chest.“Zarek has intercepted Vrax’s submersible and recovered the Shebu, High Commander.”

High Commander! The old guy was Sariel? The Askole boogeyman? He wasn’t scary at all. He was more of a grandfatherly type.

Sariel nodded. “I am aware of that. Your mate has much in common with Kaylee Jones.” He strolled up to me.“You were not wearing the War Commander’s ownership band when my warriors tried to claim you.”

My temper flared to life. “I don’t care if you are the fucking High Commander, Derek is my life mate, so back the hell off.”

Derek growled, “You trying to start a war?”

“If he wants a fight, I’ll give him one.”

Sariel’s hyena cackle filled the cargo hold.“You have Kaylee’s fearlessness.”

“I apologize my lord, but I’m sick to death of strange males thinking I am something they can possess. No one owns me. It’s my decision who I accept as a mate. No one else’s.”

“I do not think the Overlord would agree with you,”Sariel replied.

“After I kill all the males who try to bed me, he would rethink his decision.”

Sariel cackled again. “Are there more females like you?”

“No, Mayhem is one of a kind,” Derek said, massaging my stiff shoulders.

I leaned into his touch.

Zarek is awaiting us in my war room. Allow me to transport you there,” Sariel said.

“We accept your generous offer, High Commander,”Derek said.

I smothered a groan as the glittering blue light engulfed us. Why couldn’t we teleport? It was so much easier. My eyes widened when we appeared on Sariel’s transporter platform. The room was full of butchered Rodan soldiers. “How did they manage to get on your ship?”

“They cracked our security code, and brought down our shields,” Sariel answered.

I grabbed Derek’s arm. “Did they attack the other ships?”

“Yes, but before the Rodan battle cruisers could do any serious damage, Qa’a, Adan and Zosia ate the crews.”

“My father! The kids!” I cried.

“Relax. They’re fine. The Warhammer has some minor damage and the Rodan soldiers that managed to get on the ship were eaten by the kids.”

I smiled proudly. “When they get older, look out galaxy.”

Sariel gestured at the door. “The others await us.”

Stepping over pieces of Rodan, I followed him out the door.
