Page 40 of Courting Mayhem

Contempt filled Derek’s eyes.“Qa’a, Sariel and Zarek won’t see it that way.”

A grim smile curved my mouth. The Rodan had just signed their own death warrants. The Tai-Kok were the last ones to eat a Katanic female. Which resulted in the Supreme Leader joining forces with the Coletti and the Alliance. Together they had exterminated the Tai-Kok and a sizable number of Rodan soldiers too.

Kiri wrapped her branches around me. “Me show where Zosia is.”

“No!” Baelish planted an armored hand in the middle of my chest and shoved me back.“BamBam stays here.”

Now he’s concerned about females’ welfare.“Her name is Kiri, and you don’t get a say in the matter.”

Baelish’s fists balled. “The Rui is my property.”

“The hell she is. She’s part of my family now.”

Papi Sten stared at me in horror.“What?”

“I told you we should have gotten Mayhem a pet,”Poppa Jacob complained.

I glared at my fathers. “Kiri is a unique being and fits right in with our family. And yeah, a cat would have been nice.”

Derek squared off with the Askole. “Do you or do you not want to find Ina?”

“I do, but I will not risk BamBam,”Baelish growled.

With a disgusted sigh, I pulled my helmet on.Testosterone made males stupid. Wrapping an arm around Kiri, I announced, “We don’t need your help. Girl power will get the job done.”I teleported to the deck of the Viaqua.

“Damn it, Mayhem. Wait for us,” Derek ordered.

Kiri cried, “No, like.”

“You’ll like your molecules being torn apart even less.”

Baelish’s hyena cackle filled the air. “Only weaklings cannot control their females.”

The Askole was getting on my last nerve. If he wasn’t so big, I’d push him off the deck and see how well he could swim.

“What girl power?”

“You’re a girl. I’m a girl. Together we are unstoppable.”

“Zosia needs us.” Kiri jumped off me and darted down an open hatch.

“Bad baby. Wait for me.” As I clambered down the rope ladder the reek of death hit me. Ugh. Mentally scanning the area, I dropped onto the dimly lit hallway. It was full of debris, and body parts. I didn’t see Kiri. “Where are you Kiri?”

Something moved in the shadows.

“Kiri?”

A half-starved and quite naked human male staggered toward me.“Hungry.”

“Where are you?”Poppa Jacob and Derek bellowed in unison.

“Found a survivor.”I cocked my head. “He’s got funky knobs of flesh decorating his chest. Do you think they’re tentacles buds?”

“Yes. Don’t approach him,”Derek instructed.

I rolled my eyes. Like I was going to run over and give him a big hug? “Yes, my lord.”

“Him. Bad!” Kiri warned.
