“Jealous much?”
I ignored him and turned to Zosia. “How far along were you when the Rodan attacked?”
Zosia continued down the passageway with the wraiths trailing us.“I was two days away from expelling Defne when the sleeping gas was released.”
“What type of surveillance cameras do you use?”Derek frowned at his scanner.
“Cameras are not allowed in the breeding sanctuary,”Zosia answered.
I grimaced. That gave our traitress plenty of time to destroy the evidence and no one would be the wiser.
“I’m getting readings on twenty Rodan soldiers,” Derek advised on our private link. “I’ve informed Zarek and Qa’a.”
I glanced down at my bracelet. Ballock’s balls! They were only two hundred feet away. Had Mallox pull up surveillance cameras to keep track of the females. Now that we were here, Mallox wanted to grab as many pregnant females as he could.I flashed the information to Zosia in a series of images.
A creepy smile formed on Zosia’s face, and she inclined her head.
The enforcers disappeared into the darkness.
A small Katanic in her true form skittered up. “Empress come quickly. Rebi needs help with a difficult birth.”
“Which chamber Peu?” Zosia’s snakes grew longer and longer.
“With the damage done from the raid we placed her in one of the lower birthing chambers.”
What a liar. Four doors down, there was an empty birthing chamber in perfect condition.
“Do you think I am a fool, Peu?”
Peu’s squirming tentacles froze.“I do not understand. Rebi needs help. You must come.”
“Does she?”Zosia morphed into her true form and eyed Peu with contempt.“Or are you leading us into a Rodan trap?”
“A trap?”Peu’s eyes rolled wildly as she looked for a way out.
I stepped in front of the traitress.“What kind of cowardly, disgusting creature are you? Do you know what Mallox plans to do with the babies? Or maybe you just don’t care.”
Peu transformed into a fanged, blue butterfly and flew away.
An enforcer appeared out of the darkness and ate her.
“Dang. She was a perfect candidate for the Rite of Soma.”
“She and the other traitors will face the Rite,”Zosia said.
The ants did the two-step across my mind. “Incoming hostiles.” I engaged my armor.
Ten seconds after Derek’s armor formed around him, gas spewed from the ceiling.
I grabbed one of Zosia’s tentacles. “Let us teleport you to safety, before the gas can affect you.”
“No! I will not leave the pregnant females to be cut to ribbons.”
“You can’t help them if you’re unconscious,”Derek countered.
Zosia began to slump.
“We’ve got to get her out here.”
