The instant the funnel cloud touched the sand, it vanished and presto! Qa’a stood there in his human form. His three snake-like tentacles fussed with his cloak as he walked over to Zosia.

“Aw. How sweet. Qa’a wants to look good for his consort.”

Derek snorted. “You’ve been reading too many of those female smut novels. Katanics don’t do romance.”

Eeyore. Eeyore. Eeyore. Eeyore.

Papi Sten glanced over at Adan.“What do you find so amusing?”

“Those two fuck like bunnies,”Adan answered.

I smacked his tentacle.“Hey, watch your language in front of the children.”

“I’ve always wondered how they get it on,” Poppa Jacob muttered under his breath.

Qa’a stopped in front of Zosia. Their tentacles intertwined and they stared into each other eyes.

“That looks like love to me,”I said with a sigh.

Derek rubbed the back of his neck. “Yeah, it does.”

Qa’a ran a gentle tentacle over Zosia. “You honor me with your courage, your ability to overcome great hardships. Against overwhelming odds, you gave life to our child. These are the actions of an Empress. Will you join with me for all time?”

I blinked in astonishment. “Did he just propose to her?”

“I’m not sure if it’s a proposal or a mating vow,”Derek said.

“It is Qa’a’s mating vow and it will have all the females swooning in disappointment.” Adan stuck his tongue in my ear and gave me a wet willie.

“Stop! It’s clean. It’s clean,” I cried as goosebumps exploded over my body.

Poppa Jacob shushed me. “I want to hear what they’re saying.”

Zosia transformed into a human Morticia Addam’s lookalike except with Medusa’s tresses. The squirming snakes were a bit off-putting, but Qa’a seemed to find them attractive. “I will unite with you and stand by your side for all eternity.”

Derek’s eyebrows rose in surprise.“It’s a binding ceremony.”

“You should be honored. No outsider has ever observed the Katb Al-Kitaab,”Adan said.

The tips of Qa’a and Zosia’s tentacles touched. The air around them pulsed with power andCRACK!A blinding green light engulfed them.

When I could see again, they both wore what looked like a Celtic infinity mark below their left eye. Qa’a’s maw covered Zosia’s as he fed her.

I tugged on Adan’s tentacle. “Do Katanic’s consider barfing up dinner romantic?”

“The act of feeding our mates is highly erotic.”

Derek asked, “Did you get off feeding Zosia?”

“She is my sister,” Adan shot back in disgust.

“Good to know,” Derek replied without an ounce of embarrassment.

My curiosity was killing me. “Is the tattoo your version of the ownership bands?”

“It is a sign of our love and commitment. Your ownership bands can be removed, and only signify possession, not love.”

“Good point!” I smacked Derek’s chest. “See? A tattoo is a better option.”
