Page 55 of Courting Mayhem

I brought up my knees and feet and with a hard thrust, I sent him flying over my head. Ivan hit the wall with a satisfying thud.

He jumped up and swiped at the blood. “You fight well for a female.”

“Hello Berserker. And duh, who do you think trained me?”At Ivan’s blank expression, I added,“My fathers. The Warhammers.”I threw up my hands in disgust.“Were you dropped on your head as a child?”

“I am one of the most successful bounty hunters in the galaxy and you will treat me with the proper respect,”Ivan bellowed.

“No, that would be the Warhammers. You’ll be having guests shortly. Like my fathers, the War Commander, Zosia, and oh yeah, the Supreme Leader. I hope you have made your peace with the Goddess.”

“They will never find us. Our cloaking device is the best money can buy,” Ivan spat.

A brilliant orange glow popped into existence in the doorway and spun rapidly.

I rolled my eyes. How had they survived this long? Once Zosia and Adan arrived, it was going to get messy. “A Katanic mother can find her child anywhere in the galaxy. Surrender or die,” I snarled.

“When I am finished with you, you will know your place.”Ivan stalked toward me.

I scowled at him.“I don’t think so. I’m twice the warrior you’ll ever be.”

Moving faster than I expected, Ivan charged me.

I ducked under a punch, blocked another with my forearm. “That’s the best you got?”

Ivan’s battle cry echoed around the room.

“Mine’s scarier.” I howled like a wolf and shouted, “Deus Hoc Vult!”

The shocked expression on Ivan’s face was priceless.

“Ready to admit defeat?”

“Never.” Ivan swung his left leg in a high kick.

His foot whizzed over my head, missing me by a good foot. “Who taught you how to fight? Your mother?”

Loki made a gurgling noise and went down on one knee.

Ivan fixed a malevolent, hot-eyed glare on me. “Call off the Rui tree and the other creature. Now! Or you all die.”

“Surrender and I might let you live.”

“Prepare to be disciplined.” Ivan threw a series of savage punches.

I ducked and dodged his blows.

The orange light spun faster and faster and faster until it became a vortex.

I kept waiting for the idiots to notice the portal, but nope, Ivan kept on attacking me and Loki was too busy trying to rip the kids off his face.

The green lightning bolts dancing over the walls finally caught Ivan’s attention. “Goddess, save us.”

“Too late for prayers.” I drove my foot into his groin.

Ivan fell to his knees with a grunt of pain.

I decked him with a hard right to his jaw. Ivan’s eyes rolled back into his head, and he crumpled to the floor. “Consider yourself disciplined.”

Loki gasped, “I am… Your mate. You… Must… Free me.”
