I gave him the stink eye. “The one thing I’ve learned is family comes in all sizes, shapes and species, so, button it. They are mine to protect. Where are the hearts?”

“Here.” Adan’s long tongue held out two funky looking chunks of raw meat.

Zosia scooped them off his tongue and gobbled them down. Within seconds, the gaping wounds on her body began to close.

Wow! Color me impressed.

Derek teleported in with two more dead hybrids and dropped them by Zosia. “I hope you’re hungry, Adan. There are about fifty human/Katanic hybrids to be dealt with.”

Adan smacked his lips.“They would be quite tasty dipped in chocolate and sprinkled with nuts.”

What? I gaped at him. Was he serious? Sten liked chocolate as much as I did, but a meat-eating shapeshifter with a chocolate fetish was beyond bizarre. “Sorry. I don’t think we can replicate that much chocolate,” I said.

Adan’s tentacle grabbed me.“Then I will take you to Earth to buy more.”

“What? You can’t do that.” I yanked and tugged at the slimy flesh.“Plus, we don’t have time for this kind of nonsense and what about the kids?”

Defne and Kiri shivered.

“I can take you to Earth quite easily and teleporting will not harm the children.”

I looked at Derek. “Is that true?”

“Unfortunately.”

“Let go of me!”I punched Adan between the eyes.“Now.”

“You are definitely a Jones,”Adan sniped.

“Enough Adan. Bring the hybrids to me,” Zosia instructed.

Adan’s tentacle drooped. “All of them?”

“Yes. My hunger is great.”

Adan shoved me at Derek.“Immediately, Consort.” His body rippled and began to change.

“What is he doing?” I whispered to Derek.

“Transforming.”

“Oh.” I frowned. “Why?”

“Adan loves his games,” Derek groused.

“A bit on the crazy side, huh?”

“You have no idea.”

A human male suddenly stood there. He resembled the kid in those wizard books. Minus the glasses. If he was going for harmless, it was the perfect disguise.“Is all this necessary? I mean, the hybrids are going to attack, no matter what.”

“After several thousand years killing becomes monotonous. I like to up the ante a bit,”Adan replied.

“You get Derek hurt and you’ll find out how creative a berserker can be at getting even,” I warned. Damn. Why was I so worried about the War Commander?

Adan patted my cheek. “Game on.”

“What?”
