Page 14 of Courting Mayhem

“So do my fathers, but they don’t go all psycho on me.”

Shrek injected Derek and he shot to his feet with a bellow. “You little brat.”

“Enough!” Zarek shoved Derek against a wall. “Shrek take Mayhem into the other room while we talk.”

“Yes, my lord.” As Shrek escorted me out the door, I caught a brief glimpse of Zarek as he squared off with Darek. He was favoring his left leg.

Chapter Four

“Huh? I did damage his knee.”

“You fractured it.” Shrek frowned when his bracelet beeped. “I have a medical emergency. Wait here.” Shrek grabbed a black bag and hurried out.

I smiled. Not a chance. With my handy-dandy gauntlet, it took me less than thirty seconds to disable the door lock. I scanned for my fathers. There. Two decks below me. Rats. I would have to take a lift to get there. Assuming my best innocent, not too bright female act, I scampered down the corridor like I didn’t have a care in the world.

Ballock’s balls. I could sense a Coletti warrior in the lift. The doors slid open. I gave him my Debbie Sunshine smile. “Can you help me? I’m lost.”

“You are the berserker,” the warrior exclaimed, and his hand dropped to his weapon.

“Don’t shoot me!” I shrieked and rolled into a ball. “Don’t hurt me. Please don’t hurt me.”

He leaned down. “Easy, little one. I will not hurt you.”

Too bad I couldn’t say the same. I drove my boot into his face. His head snapped back, and he toppled over.

Before he could recover, I grabbed his pistol and stunned him. “Not too bright, are you? Now I have your weapon and if I was a bad guy, you’d be very dead.” I stepped into the lift and said, “Deck five.” Whoosh. Down I went.

The lift doors opened and there stood Zarek and the grumpy old man. Pissed didn’t even come close to describing their expressions. “Done talking?”

Zarek held out his hand. “Give me the pistol.”

I was sorely tempted to shoot Derek first.

Derek’s armor engulfed him.

Smart man. I handed Zarek the pistol.

Derek growled, “Did you really think you could break your fathers out of the brig without setting off every alarm on the ship?”

I shrugged.

“Damn. You did,” Derek exclaimed.

I hated smart males.

Zarek commanded, “Show me.”

“Is that really necessary?” I stalled. I didn’t want to give away all our secrets.

“Now Sadira.”

Crap. Zarek sounded just like Papi Sten when I had broken a rule and who had told him my real name? Since I didn’t have any choice but to obey him, I clamped my right arm to my chest. “As you command, my lord.” I walked over to the brig’s security panel. The Overlord was going to love this little gadget. Pulling a sensor probe from my gauntlet, I attached it to the keypad. Ten seconds later their alarms were deactivated. The doors opened.

Derek ran a diagnostic test on the security panel. “Shit! Every alarm on the ship have been disabled.”

“Detja also created a device that could deactivate security protocols.” Zarek took my left arm and examined my gauntlet. “Where did you get this program?”
