We backed out of the room. Once clear from the door. Kyler turned around and followed his colleague into a service elevator.
The ride down was quiet.
“Put me down, please.” I patted his hip. He didn’t respond. He held me over his shoulder with one arm, absently rubbing my thigh. I might have enjoyed it if the blood wasn’t rushing to my head. “Hey!” I yelled and groaned. The sound echoed inside the metal lined elevator.
“I think she’s talking to you.” The other guy spoke.
“Please let me down.” A foul-smelling hiccup escaped. My stomach sent warning signals to my brain. “I’m going to be sick.”
“Josh, grab her.” Kyler stooped down and deposited me on my bare feet. Josh steadied me. The world continued to vibrate around me. I looked down.
“Where are my shoes?” I lifted my head and looked up into Kyler’s face. The kindness in his eyes had returned. Then they morphed into a rabbit. Like a snapchat filter. I blinked and shook my head.
“You okay?”
I grabbed his jacket at the spot where it buttoned and turned away. The metal undulated beneath my feet.
“I think they gave her something,” Josh said.
“Rayna.” Kyler grabbed my arm.
“I’m going to be sick.” I fell over, but Kyler grabbed me around the waist.
I lifted my feet and admired his fancy shoes again, before I threw up champagne all over them.
CHAPTER4
Rayna laid limp in my arms. Josh howling like a schoolboy as vomit splattered across my favorite pair of shoes.
“Fuck.” I hitched her up in my arms. “A little help here.”
“She passed out.” Josh grabbed under her arms.
I cradled her in my arms and hosted her back over my shoulders. She weighed nothing. Just a tiny little thing with the long legs. When we hit level three of the parking garage, Josh’s phone rang.
We stepped out of the elevator. I peeked to my left and right before moving. Our car was parked right where we left it. My driver standing by with the door open.
“Yeah.” He mouthed the name Stanley to me. I gripped the flesh of her thigh and took off toward the car. If everything was going according to plan. The FBI would be raiding the party right about now.
I sat Rayna in the passenger seat and kneeled next to her. I check her eyes to make sure they were reactive. She was still breathing. She might have passed out from the drugs in her system or fainted from all the excitement. I adjusted her dress, not liking that all those men got to see her like this. It was revealing way too much. She shivered. I shucked off my jacket and pulled my shirt off. I wrapped it around her and pulled her arms through the sleeves. It was way too big on her. I button it before buckling her seat belt.
“We’re leaving now.” Josh spoke into the phone. He rounded the truck.
I closed her door and followed him. I scanned the parking lot. Thankfully, we were alone.
“Let’s go.” I climbed in the car, and we took off. We drove through the parking lot, down the two ramps and out of the exit. We drove behind the building and out onto a service road which led to the highway.
I opened Rayna’s window to let some fresh air in. We all smelled like cigarette smoke, and bad whiskey. I would be burning these clothes.
She looked like an angel sleeping. I rolled up her right sleeve and then her left and sat them on her lap. She grabbed my arm.
She was still sound asleep. What did they give her? Since she was breathing and not in immediate distress, I wasn’t too worried. She curled into me and laid her head on my shoulders. I caressed her cheek and kissed the top of her head.
Underneath the smoke, I smell the subtle scent of coconuts. I inhaled deeply, enjoying the scent.
Josh grunted.
I looked up to find him watching me.
