As my mind ran over and over the questions, my eyelids grew heavier and heavier. By the time I realized I was off again, it was too late.

“This is why they thought I had a mental health problem,” I cried into the void as the picture coalesced before me.

The goddamn Fates were constantly pulling me into visions, which made me unreliable at best, completely useless at worst, because I could never gauge the passing of time when I was in them.

It was still dark around me, and turning, I recoiled in horror.

Jacinth was naked, curled into herself, suspended in the middle of the endless darkness.

She was pale as... well... a ghost. A gray that faded the more you stared at it.

Particles peeled off her one by one, and it came to me with no small amount of terror that she was disintegrating.

What was this?

I had to see more, so, with a great push of will, I retreated.

Zooming out, as it were.

There was a pop, and I was standing nose to nose with Alisdair.

His grin rapturous.

With a sinking heart, I looked around at a familiar scene. Silver Springs was a wasteland.

It was on the second pass that it occurred to me where I had started this vision.

Jacinth was inside the amulet.

Alisdair had won.

I really should have known betterthan to give her the reins. Even with all her antics, though, I was happier knowing she was safe.

She washed our face and hands in the sink as best she could, and I had to laugh at her internal babble. Who would have thought she had some kind of brain-to-mouth filter.

Honestly, having the direct stream was a little terrifying.

I did like how obsessed she seemed to be with my dick, though.

Once we cleaned up, I expected her to take us back out to help Orion.

Not what happened.

At the door, instead of the usual grab and yank, she twisted the lock and leaned against the wooden panel.

‘What are you up to?’

Her amusement bubbled through our shared consciousness... and something else.
