“Okay.”

“Forgive me for asking, but are you in a relationship with the father of your baby?”

“Uh, yes.”

“Does he know about the pregnancy?”

“No. I haven’t told him yet.”

“I see.”

“I will. Just not right now.”

“I’m here if you need any assistance, Emily. Please call on me if I can help.”

“Thank you, Doc. That’s very kind of you.”

She writes a prescription for pregnancy vitamins and supplements while I get dressed. I thank her and leave.

Now that it’s official. I’ll have to tell Lucas sooner rather than later.

“Is everything okay?” Damon asks on our drive back to the estate.

“Uh-huh.”

“Okay.”

He sounds unconvinced. Not surprisingly. I’m not exactly selling it.

He starts to say something, but he’s cut short by a sudden, shattering noise. I look to my right in panic. Dominick’s full weight is on me, and I’m finding it almost impossible to breathe. What the hell is happening?

“Dom!” I shout, but he doesn't move.

“Stay down, Emily,” Damon screams at me over the chaos.

Stay down? I couldn’t move if I wanted to. Dominick weighs a ton!

“What’s happening, Damon?” I yell out in panic.

Dom is wet and sticky. It’s his blood! He’s bleeding all over me. Oh, no!

“Dom!” I shout again, hoping he’ll respond.

But he isn’t moving. Is he dead? Who’s shooting at us? This is a nightmare, and I’m terrified. Damine is driving like a maniac. He takes the corner so quickly and sharply that Dom’s body is flung off me.

“Hold on!” Damon shouts again. “Stay away from the window!”

I close my eyes and scrunch down as far as I can. It’s finally happening. David’s killer has found me, and he’s determined to kill me too.

“They’re following us,” Damon shouts again. “I’m going to give them the slip,” he shouts. “Hold on.”

I bite down hard on my teeth as he snakes the streets of LA, trying to lose the car that’s following us.

Damon stops suddenly and jumps out of the car. He opens the back door and pulls Dominick out of the car, so I can get out.

“Are you okay? Are you hurt?” he says, looking me up and down.

“No. I’m fine. Is Dom…”
