I smile at the message even though I shouldn’t and wonder if the calm spreading through me is what people experience when they know what happens next. When their life is predictable and not a complete mess all the time.
A breath sucks in as arms snake around my waist, and hot breath touches my ear. “Wanna get outta here, baby?”
I relax and drop my head on the shoulder behind me. “Only if you take me back to your dorm room.”
“Hell yeah, I will.” Cam drives me forward down the sidewalk. “Just don’t expect me to cuddle or anything. My woman’s getting off soon, and I don’t want to smell like another chick.”
“For the best since my roommate will be there. She hates it when I bring people back.”
“Correction: she hates when you bring dirty boys back.”
We laugh, crossing the street. The lights to Sawyer’s car blink, and I climb in. It’s only after we’ve driven away that I realize I forgot my damn coat.
I’m too warm when I wake up.
A faint light from the parking lot streams through the window into my room. I yawn, and in the process of tossing off my comforter, I discover my coat draped over the top. What the hell?
I swing my legs out of bed, but rather than carpet, my feet touch a warm body.
One more time,What the hell?
The lamp blinds me when I switch it on. My eyes adjust to Felicia in Cam’s bed with Jess and Becca asleep on the floor between us. When my room became the site of a sleepover, I have no idea.
“Hey,” Felicia whispers, sitting up. “Are you still mad at me?”
I rub a hand over my face, still not awake enough to know why I would have been mad at her in the first place. “No?”
“Thank God.” She jumps over Jess and Becca and hops in my bed. “I’m so sorry, Callie. I wasn’t trying to force you to be with him. I just thought he might be good for you. Someone impulsive and fun, you know?”
Oh right, my minor meltdown in the bathroom at the party. I lean back against the wall next to her and rest my head on her shoulder. “I overreacted. It had nothing to do with you.”
“You’re sure?”
One hundred percent positive, I nod. “But I would appreciate it if you cooled it with the Team Jordan nonsense.”
She kisses the top of my head. “Team Callie all the way, baby.”
“I’ll be on Team Jordan,” Jess says. “I’ll be on anything Jordan.”
Good Lord, the girl’s subtlety needs work.
“How about no teams at all?”
Becca groans and covers her face with a pillow. She mumbles before sitting up. “Why are you all awake right now?”
I lift my head. “Why are you all in my room right now?”
She yawns, creating a domino effect between the four of us until we’ve all stretched out our lungs.
“I came in to apologize, but you were already asleep,” Felicia says.
“I followed her in because I was drunk.” Becca drops onto her pillow. “Am drunk.”
“And?” I look at Jess.
She shrugs. “I woke up, and everyone else was in here.”
I shake my head. “Well, I’m going back to sleep before Gibson gets any bright ideas about pulling out the spirit board or starting a pillow fight.”
