Finding the phone, I pulled it close and held it to see who needed me at six in the freaking morning. Blinking rapidly, I sighed as I slid my thumb across the screen to answer the call.
“Hey, Juno,” I rasped, my voice thick with sleep. “What the hell are you doing up this early?”
“Early bird gets the sales, babe.”
I huffed in agreement and leaned back against the headboard. My gaze shifted to Miles on my other side, finding him awake, hazel eyes staring up at me. Reaching over, I ran my fingers through his short hair and down the back of his neck, letting him know I was all good.
“Working on the website again?” I said with a yawn.
“Babe, your pictures are breaking the internet. Everyone wants a high-resolution copy, and that shit takes a lot of bandwidth.” My lids fluttered closed. “That along with the number of payments you have coming through meant I needed to upgrade your site and change hosts to make sure there isn’t lag time, which means lost sales.”
“You’re too good to me, Juno.”
“Yeah, well, you’re paying me, so it’s kind of my job. Plus, it’s fun. Having creative freedom and this back-end shit is my jam.”
“Well, thank you, nonetheless. You’re a computer god, and I owe you a night at Dave’s as a bonus for all this.”
A male voice called her name in the background. “You know I’ll never turn down free booze. I gotta run. See you tonight at book club. You’re bringing the wine, right?”
“Yep, and I wouldn’t miss it. Bye.”
The moment the phone fell to the bed, Miles’s thick arm wrapped around my waist and slid me down until I was once again lying between him and Aiden. I traced a finger along his scruff-covered jaw.
“I was worried it was your mom again,” he said.
Shifting on the soft sheet, I wiggled until my face pressed against his chest and our bodies were sealed together.
“Yeah, well, I highly doubt I’ll hear from her again after that ultimatum I gave her. If she can’t accept us, the three of us together and our community, then I don’t want her in my life.” It was true. Without the guys’ input or insistence, I’d finally had enough of my mother’s old-school rants and lectures and told her to never call again until she was ready to accept us all.
That was two months ago.
Was I sad? Well, yeah, but I didn’t regret the decision. Since I cut out her constant accusations of living in sin and going straight to hell for the life I chose, the one that made me happy and where I was obsessively loved by two amazing men, I’d been more settled.
However, that could also be because of the major news I was hiding from the guys.
News that would change our lives forever.
News that would maybe change my mother’s view on our relationship if she ever pulled her head out of her ass and reached out so I could tell her.
“What?” Miles said, tone tense.
“What, what?” I replied, fluttering my lashes. Damnit, how did he always know when I was holding something back?
“Aspen,” he growled. With a careful tug, he slid me on top of him until I straddled his hips.
“I love waking up this way,” Aiden muttered. My hair fanned out as I turned, finding him watching us with a smirk pulling at his lips. “Though I agree with Miles. What’s going on, sweetheart?”
I groaned and looked at the ceiling. “How are you guys this perceptive?”
Miles chuckled. “You’re easy to read despite what you think, baby girl. Now, out with it. What’s going on in that beautiful brain of yours that’s had you preoccupied the last couple of days? We’ve given you time to tell us, but time’s up.”
Chewing on my lower lip, I flicked my gaze from Aiden to Miles and back again.
“Fine. I have been holding something back from you.” Miles’s muscles tensed beneath me, and Aiden sat up straight with a concerned look. I shot him a stern expression. “Don’t go there, Aiden. It’s nothing bad, and it’s nothing you did.” I bit my lip to conceal my smile. “Well, maybe you did it, but we won’t know for another nine months.”
Silence encompassed the room, neither of them even breathing as they blinked at me while processing my words.
Aiden was the first to put it together. With a curse so loud I flinched, he leapt up and stood on the bed. “Don’t kid me about this, sweetheart.” Tears filled my lower lids as my smile grew. “Please, Aspen, please don’t be joking.”
