Bo didn't bat an eyelash at the whispers, the attention. When I asked him about that, he shrugged.
"You get used to it," he said.
"Ah, I see," I said. "Everyone loves a superstar athlete."
"That include you?"
I sputtered, but Bo just lifted a brow.
"It was a joke, Kent."
"Oh."
"Relax," he said quietly as we stopped.
I nodded but then froze as he pulled our joined hands up to his lips.
Bo laid a soft kiss on my knuckles.
The result: my knees went weak; my breath caught; and I was pretty sure hearts were coming out of my eyes.
The group of girls standing near us released a collective sigh, and Bo grinned.
"I think they liked that," he whispered.
They weren't the only ones, I thought.
"See you at lunch."
"Okay, Flower Boy," I said softly.
Bo gave me a stern look then. "No hiding in the bathroom."
With a laugh, I said, "That was a one time thing. I'm starving, and there's a new book I want to start. Plus"—I lowered my voice—"I have a fake boyfriend now, so I'll see you there."
Bo's frown didn't change, but somehow I knew he was pleased.
Lunch was…interesting.
Scarlett was already at our usual table when I arrived. She had her earbuds in, listening to music, and we nodded a greeting.
"Hey sis," she said, "how goes the dating game?"
"Shhh," I said, looking around.
"What? As if anyone could possibly guess what I'm talking about."
"They might."
Scarlett rolled her eyes as she took out her buds and then smiled at something over my shoulder.
"Hey there, neighbor," she said.
I felt Bo's approach before I saw him.
"I was wondering when we'd get a chance to chat."
Bo lowered his tray to the table and took the seat next to mine. He nodded to me then to my sister.
