I told her.
By the end, Scarlett's face was caught somewhere between a grin and a grimace.
"I can't believe it," she said.
"Which part?" I asked. "The part where Trevor assumed I'm bad at science because I'm a girl."
"Physics isn't your strong suit," she commented.
"Thanks for the support, sis," I said.
Scarlett shrugged. "I love you too much to lie."
Rolling my eyes, I said, "Or was the unbelievable part where Chester ended up having a boyfriend and offered to give me a makeover?"
"Nah," she said. "I can totally believe Copperfield would have a boyfriend or girlfriend. He's a total catch."
"Yeah," I said. "Just not for me."
"Are you going to take him up on the makeover?"
"Still thinking about it."
"If you don't, can I?" she asked.
I shook my head. "Like you need it. You've always been fashionable without even trying. It's one of the many reasons I'd dislike you if you weren't my sister."
Scarlett huffed, pretending to be offended, but she ruined it by grinning.
"Or can you not believe that two bookworms—romance-hating Harrison and I—didn't hit it off?"
"None of those," she said.
I lifted a brow in question.
"I can't believe two of them already have business cards," she said. "I've now made a mental note to get my own."
I elbowed her in the ribs.
"Hey! Like it didn't cross your mind?"
It totally had.
When Scarlett raised her brows, I said, "I may have considered the layout, colors, and font for my own cards. As a librarian's assistant, they could come in handy, obviously. But that's notthe point."
"What is the point?" Scarlett asked.
"The point is I suck at this."
With a sigh, I bent at the waist, burying my head between my crossed arms.
"Did you expect everything to be perfect?"
I took a page from Harrison's book and merely grunted.
"Seriously, Lotte, don't be so hard on yourself." Scarlett lowered her voice then said, "I'm not trying to be mean, but you know next to nothing about flirtation or talking to guys. I don't either. There's always a learning curve when you're trying something new, right?"
I mumbled something incoherent.
