I shrugged. "I thought the promise of free food might entice them."
"Guess not," Natalia said.
"Yeah, but we'll still make it wonderful."
The girls nodded.
"Okay, thetruck's outside," I said, rolling my shoulders to loosen them up. "We should startbringing stuff in.It might take a while."
"Yeah, like all day," Casey grumped.
"It'll go by fast."
"My nails are not going to thank me for this."
"Eh, we'll take turns working the desk."
Natalia offered to stay behind while Casey and I went out to the truck. The tables wereheavy. Ittook two of us to carry one. There were six others as well as chairs, a chaise for ornamentation, faux white columns, and other little things. Casey and I set down the first table rightinside the entrance, noticing a large crowd around the desk.
Of guys, I mentally added.
There was a large group of males standing around the library counter.
"Am I hallucinating?" I asked.
"If you are, I am too," Casey murmured.
"It's like the library's been infiltrated by a convention of male models."
"Or a SWAT team."
Natalia noticed us and smiled.
"Oh hey, girls," she said, gesturing to the assembly in front of her."Looks like wegot some sign-ups after all."
"But how?" I asked as two of the newcomers separated from the group to take the table.
Casey laughed. "Who cares? My back is killing me, and we need all the muscle we can get."
"Where do you want this?" one of themsaid.I felt like I'd seen his face somewhere but couldn't quite place him.
"Oh," I said, "well, there's a storage room in back. We're keeping everything there until Saturday."
He nodded and off they went.
"Thank you," I called after them. To Casey, I said, "Someone must've sent out the Bat-Signal."
"Yeah, I'll give you one guess who," she said back.
"What do you—"
She nodded to the group, and out of all those faces, I saw Bo. He and Shin stepped forward.
"Hey," I said, shaking my head, "what are you guys doing here?"
"What's it look like, Lottie?" Shin said with a grin. "Heard you needed help, so we're here. Ready to sell our bodies for a good cause."
"Huh?"
