"Ah, the rivalry that turned into a lifelong friendship." My smile widened. "I can totally see that for you guys."
Bo and Dare glanced at each other—then both shook their heads.
"Nah, Kent, I'm not seeing it," Bo said.
"Me neither," Dare retorted.
I crossed my arms, and Viola rolled her eyes.
Scarlett, though, laughed. "Ooh, your boyfriends aren't getting along. We'll have to do something about that before the next reunion."
Maintaining my smile was an effort, but I kept it together as Viola squealed at the news.
"What?!?" she said, looking from me to Bo and back again. "You two are together now?"
"We are," I said, nearly jumping as hisfingers flexed against my waist. "It's kind of a new thing."
"I had no idea."
Dare lifted his chin at Bo. "That's awesome, man. Congrats."
"Thanks," Bo said.
Viola's eyes were full of wonder when she asked, "How did this happen?"
I tried to form words, but nothing came out.Scarlett just grinned, enjoying this far too much, and Bo was the one who came to the rescue.
"It started at the library," he said, and when I looked up, he was gazing down at me with an unreadable expression. "Then it grew from there. Right, Kent?"
"Y-yeah," I stuttered, still lost in that intense gaze and the sheer closeness of him.
"My girl loves books."
"I do."
Someone sighed.
It must've been Viola because then she said, "You're right, Scar. They are adorable."
"Told you so," my sister said.
Clearing my throat, knowing there was a blush on my cheeks, I looked away.
"Well," I said, "it was great seeing you, Vi. Are we still on for story time this weekend?"
"Of course," Viola said. "The dogs and cats at the shelter love it."
I grinned. "Well, the readers do too."
Scarlett gave a nod. "Some of the kids from my mentoring program signed up.They're really excited."
"Everyone gets something out of the deal," I said, "which is what makes it the best."
Bo was looking at me curiously, but before he could say anything, Viola stepped forward.
"Well, we better head out," she said, sweeping Scarlett into a hug. "I'll see you guys soon."
"Can't wait," Scarlett said then leaned back and pointed a finger her way. "Don't forget we're also playing at the library charity event. So practice."
