“Sure. I can be there in five minutes.”
“Where’s Chad?”
“He’s getting ready to attend a team event. Isn’t Jackson supposed to go to that too?”
“Yeah, probably. He’s on a call with the GM.”
“Gotcha. Anyway, I’m walking out of the house. See you soon.”
Shit. I need to get dressed. I don’t have time to shower, and I’d feel funny showering in Jackson’s bathroom anyway. It’s even more intimate than using the bathroom in his hotel room back in Vancouver.
I get ready in a flash, glad that I was wearing something simple. When I walk out of the room, Jackson is nowhere to be seen, but I can hear his muffled voice from somewhere in the house. I don’t want to interrupt him while he’s on a call with his boss, so I wait for Jane by a front window.
Exactly five minutes later, she pulls up the driveway. Crap. I don’t want to leave without saying goodbye to Jackson. That’d be rude. I’ll have to go find him.
I start to move toward where I think he is, but he finds me first. “Are you leaving?” His brows arch.
“Yeah, Jane just got here.”
“I would have driven you to Chad’s.”
I stick my hands in my pockets and bounce on the balls of my feet. I don’t know why, but I’m feeling super awkward now.
Maybe because Jackson is standing naked in front of you without a care in the world, Izzie.
“It’s okay. The plan was always for her to come pick me up.”
He walks over and touches my cheek. “I had a great time.”
Heat spreads across my face. “Yeah, me too.”
“I’ll be busy this week, but I want to see you again.”
My heart skips a beat. “I’ll be pretty busy too, with work at Triana and the clinic.”
“We’ll figure something out.”
My phone rings in my pocket. “It’s Jane.”
Jackson cups my face with both hands and gives me another toe-curling kiss. It doesn’t last, and it leaves me craving for more.
“I’ll talk to you soon, Izzie.”
I was already in a daze thanks to his kiss, but the way he’s looking at me now is making my head spin. Like an idiot, I just stare at the man without saying anything. It’s the ringing doorbell that snaps me out of my paralysis.
“That must be your sister. I’d better go to my room.”
I don’t understand him at first, but then I remember he’s naked. “Yeah, okay. Byee!”
I run to the front door faster than a bullet, berating myself for being so lame.
Jane is waiting for me outside with her phone in her hand. “I was about to call you again.”
“Sorry… I was just saying goodbye to Jackson.”
“Hmm… I see.”
“A regular goodbye, not the horizontal type.”
