I went for her, and it backed up, letting me through. I hugged her so tight that she had to pry me away from her to breathe.
“Mom,” she pleaded.
I hugged her longer.
She finally managed to squirm free from me.
“Are you okay?” I asked.
She nodded. “Lucian kept me safe.”
I turned and looked at him before boldly bending and wrapping my arms around his neck. I hugged him. “Thank you for keeping her safe and thank you for what you did for Mina and me all those years ago.”
Jonathan curled his lip. “Stop staring at my mate’s chest, Lucian.”
The black wolf’s tongue darted out over my upper chest.
Jonathan snarled.
I stood. “Stop. He kept your daughter safe.”
Hannah swallowed hard as she watched Jonathan yank the silver arrow from his thigh.
He tossed the arrow aside, and the wound closed fast. He shook his upper body quickly, and the fur receded. When he looked up at me, his eyes were back to normal.
Hannah darted away from me and went at Jonathan. She tossed her arms around his neck, and he caught her. He hugged her and lifted her off her feet.
She burst into tears. “I thought you were dead.”
He set her on her feet gently and smoothed the back of her head. “Shh, poppet, I’m fine. It takes a lot more than some measly arrows to keep me down.”
She cried harder.
He cupped her face and kissed her forehead. “There was no chance I was going to check out, having only just met you. You’re stuck with me.”
“Good,” she said before twisting in his arms to look at me. “Mom, can we stay here in Grimm Cove with Dad?”
Jonathan stared at me as well. “Say yes.”
I was about to list all the reasons we couldn’t just uproot our lives when Lucian stuck his snout between my legs from behind and gave me a shove toward Jonathan and Hannah, as if encouraging me to agree. I laughed and swatted at him lightly before I faced my daughter and my husband. I nodded. “Okay. Yes.”
Hannah squealed, hugged Jonathan fast, and then ran straight to Lucian. She hugged him around the neck.
Jonathan watched the act like he was waiting for it to end so he could murder Lucian in cold blood.
I hurried to him and put my hand on his chest. “Jonathan.”
His gaze snapped to my lips. “I love you.”
I gasped. “W-what?”
He grinned. “I love you.”
“You can’t,” I stammered.
“Why not?” he demanded, his arms sliding around my waist.
“Because you barely know me,” I returned.
