“She bumped uglies with your dad during that time frame. Let this be a lesson as to why bumping anything with a boy is a bad idea. If a man tries to bump you with anything, rip it off, okay?” Mina nodded and crossed her arms under her breasts. “And then tell me or your mother so we can rip the rest of him apart.”
Jonathan growled. “No, really, I’d be happy to handle it.”
Mina grinned. “You’re all right, England. I came here wanting to stick my foot right up your backside for making me worry about my sister all day. But I guess you’ll do. Hurt her or walk away and not talk to her for eighteen more years, and you’ll have me to deal with.”
“You weren’t this scary in college,” said Beau.
“No. She was,” countered Willa as she cried softly, all while snorting. “You just didn’t notice.”
Hannah locked gazes with Jonathan. She teared up as well. “Mom may not have remembered being with you, but you remembered her, right?”
“It's complicated,” said Jonathan. “What I can tell you is that now that I’ve found her again and know about you, I’m not going anywhere. I will be there every step of the way from here on out.”
“Mom?” asked Hannah. “Is he for real?”
Willa wiped her cheeks and went toward the cave entrance. “Honey, he and I just reconnected. I can’t promise it will go anywhere, but I can promise to make every effort I can to be sure he’s a part of your life from this point forward.”
Dwayne came rushing into the cave opening. He gave the teenagers a firm look. “You two are damn fast. I told you both to stay on the grounds of the estate. Want to tell me how it is you managed to boost a vehicle and find your way here?”
Mina rounded on her daughter. “You stole a car?”
The raven-haired teen bit her inner cheek. “More like borrowed. I didn’t hotwire it or anything, although it turns out Hannah read about that in a book once, so she like totally knows how to do it.”
Willa gasped. “Hannah!”
Hannah cringed. “I didn’t do it. I just read about it.”
Dwayne glanced at Jonathan and arched a brow. “Uh, what are you doing here? I thought we agreed you weren’t going to spend a bunch of time in here when you’re in town.” He sniffed the air. “Holy shit, why does the other twin smell like you marked her? Is that her? Is that your mate?”
“Yes,” said Jonathan, doing his best to control his emotions. He didn’t like hearing Willa dismiss what they had as nothing more than a random reconnection, but he couldn’t exactly blame her. She didn’t fully understand what was happening.
Dwayne moved around Mina and Beau, coming into the cave more. He grabbed Willa and dragged her against him, hugging her tight. “Welcome to the family. Sorry you got him as a husband, but I’m happy you’re part of the family now.”
Jonathan grunted.
Willa returned the embrace and then stiffened. “Hold on, husband?”
Dwayne eased his hold on her, his gaze whipping toward Jonathan. “She does understand she’s your wife, right? That you claimed her eighteen years ago, and from what I smell, she returned the claim.”
Uncomfortable discussing this in front of his teenage daughter, Jonathan rubbed the back of his neck. “Um, I did and said my part eighteen years ago. She did her part today. I hadn’t had a chance to explain it all to her in depth.”
Dwayne chuckled and then looked back at Hannah quickly. He turned ever so slowly back in Jonathan’s direction. “You have a teenage daughter?”
Jonathan nodded, smiling as he did. He teared up. “I do.”
“Congrats, man,” said Dwayne, coming for him next. He pulled Jonathan into a manly hug.
Jonathan returned it. “Thanks. Can I get a minute with Willa and Hannah?”
Dwayne nodded. “Of course. Beau, want to get the keys to the car the girls took? You can drive it back to the estate.”
The raven-haired teen reached into her pocket and withdrew a set of keys. She threw them to Dwayne, who caught them with ease.
Mina shook her head. “I’m raising a felon. Temperance, I cannot believe you did that.”
“From what I’ve heard about you when you were my age, you’d have done it too,” said Temperance.
Willa laughed. “You’re right. She would have.”
