Lewis decided it had enough. “Twinbrother,” he said.
The guy blinked. “Yeah, I know you and Lewis are twins.” It took him a second to get it. When he did, his eyes widened, and he leaned back in his chair as if trying to put as much distance as possible between him and Lewis. “Oh my God. Please tell me you’re Seymour.”
Lewis grimaced. “I’m afraid I can’t.” He stuck out his hand. “Lewis, Seymour’s brother.”
The man groaned. “And Kennedy’s mate. Gosh, I’m so sorry.”
Lewis wiggled his fingers, inviting the man to shake his hand. He did so, sliding their palms together. “You don’t have anything to be sorry about,” Lewis tried to reassure him.
“Are you kidding me? I just wondered out loud what your mate’s hands would feel on my body.” He shuddered. “No one should have to hear that. I should’ve kept my mouth shut.”
“At the very least, you should’ve checked that I was Seymour. I didn’t catch your name.”
“Oh. I’m Orlando.”
“And you were a trainee, right?”
“Yeah. I didn’t get the job, though. I’m not sure I wanted it anyway, so that’s good.”
“Why did you apply if you didn’t want to be a council assassin?”
Orlando shrugged. “To show to myself and everyone else that I could do it, I guess.”
“Will you be staying in town?”
Orlando groaned. “Look at you making small talk after I panted all over your mate. I’mreallysorry about that.”
“You don’t have to keep apologizing. I understand better than anyone how attractive Kennedy is. He’s also a good man, which makes it harder to resist him.”
“Exactly! Like, how am I supposed not to want him to bend me over the closest table when he looks like he’d be so gentle doing it?”
“Maybe we could avoid details.”
Orlando’s cheeks flushed. “Right.” He looked up and paled. “I have to go.”
Lewis was having fun, which surprised him, so he was kind of sad to see Orlando go. He understood better when he saw that Kennedy was finally approaching, still with the two glasses.
He sat in the chair Orlando had left empty when he’d run away and offered Lewis one of the glasses. It was soda since Lewis didn’t drink. “Why did Orlando leave so quickly?” Kennedy asked.
Lewis pressed his lips together so he wouldn’t laugh. He doubted Kennedy knew about Orlando’s crush, and Orlando probably wanted to keep things that way. “He said he saw someone he wanted to talk to.”
“Yeah? Are you having fun?”
“Surprisingly, I am.”
“I’m glad.” Kennedy curled an arm around Lewis’s shoulders. Lewis leaned closer, briefly thinking about Orlando and what he might think if he saw them together like this.
He wasn’t worried that Orlando would try to steal Kennedy from him or anything like that. He and Kennedy were bonded, but even if they weren’t, Kennedy would never cheat on anyone. He certainly wouldn’t cheat on his mate.
“I felt it earlier,” Kennedy continued. “It’s still a little weird, but I like that I can feel you even when you’re not with me.”
“I love it,” Lewis confessed. “And I’m glad I agreed to come. I wasn’t sure initially, but everyone seems nice, even though they’re scary.”
Kennedy threw his head back and laughed. Lewis couldn’t look away from the way his throat moved. He wanted to lick it.
“I saw you talking to Cynthia earlier,” Kennedy said.
“She’s terrifying.”
