Wallace Senior scoffed. “I saw you myself.”
“What you saw was me and my mate.”
“That’s not possible. Seymour said he was my son’s mate, and Jimmy confirmed it. A man can’t have two mates.” His cheeks turned even redder. “And I won’t allow my son to be in a relationship with more than one person.”
It was cute that Wallace Senior thought he could forbid Jimmy from doing anything. The fact that he thought that Kennedy, Jimmy, and Seymour were in a polyamory relationship was horrifying, but only because Kennedy didn’t view them like that. The thought of being with Seymour gave him the creeps because of Lewis. As for Jimmy, he was a friend, and that was all he’d ever be.
“You don’t want that kind of people at your facility,” Wallace Senior added.
“The only kind of person I want working here is people who know how to do their job and do it. That describes Kennedy to a T.”
“Besides, we’re not in a relationship,” Kennedy said. “And I’m not with Seymour. My mate is Lewis, Seymour’s twin brother.” Kennedy kind of wished he could have dragged this thing on for a bit longer to make Wallace Senior suffer, but the stunned expression on his face was just as satisfying.
For a moment, Wallace Senior blinked at Kennedy as if he was trying to make sense of what Kennedy had said. Kennedy expected more trouble from him, so he wasn’t surprised when he straightened in his chair.
“That’s a lie.”
Kennedy laughed. “You think I’m lying about my mate having a twin brother? That’s easily verified. In fact, Bennett met both Seymour and Lewis at the same time. He can confirm they’re twins.”
“It’s not possible.”
Bennett cleared his throat. “It is, in fact, possible. Ihavemet with Seymour and Lewis, and both of them are delightful men. I’m starting to regret allowing you into the facility, Mr. Jones. I realize you have some influence over the people I work for, but even they won’t be happy to learn about this last stunt of yours. You’ve been disturbing my employees and a man who has nothing to do with the council just because you want revenge on your son for not talking to you. That isn’t the kind of behavior the council wants to be associated with.”
Wallace Senior looked like he was having trouble breathing. For a moment, Kennedy wondered if he was having a heart attack. His cheeks were so dark they appeared purple, and he was gaping and staring at Bennett.
Bennett nodded at Hawthorne. “Hawthorne, please take Mr. Jones to the entrance and make sure the guards there know he’s never to be allowed inside again. Kennedy, since you’re already here, why don’t you stay behind so we can discuss what your next job for the council will be?”
Hawthorne came to a stop behind Wallace Senior’s chair. He stared down at him, and even though they were friends, Kennedy couldn’t deny he found him intimidating. Wallace Senior squeaked, but he remained stubbornly in his chair.
“You can’t kick me out.”
“As you pointed out earlier, I’m in charge of this facility, which means I can do anything I want,” Bennett drawled. “And what I really want right now is for you to leave. If you don’t comply, Hawthorne will have to use force, and I don’t think you want that.”
Wallace Senior got up, still glaring around. Kennedy didn’t care. He hoped they were finally rid of him. The only way for this mess to get worse would be for the asshole to physically attack his son, and Kennedy almost hoped he would do that. Wallace, Jimmy, Seymour, and Hawthorne were all trained to kill. Wallace probably wouldn’t be able to kill his own father, but he could defend himself and kick his ass.
If Wallace Senior tried anything with any of them, he wouldn’t know what hit him.

LEWIS AND KENNEDY HADbeen planning on seeing each other after work tonight, but Lewis hadn’t expected Seymour and Jimmy to be there, too, so he was surprised when the three of them walked into the flower shop as he was closing up.
Danny had already left—he had a date, and Lewis had kicked him out half an hour ago so he’d have time to get ready. Danny was both nervous and excited, and Lewis hoped things would go well for him. Danny was always looking for love, and it hadn’t gotten better since Lewis had found his mate. It wasn’t that Danny was jealous. He just wanted the same, and so far, he hadn’t found it.
“Are you coming to dinner with us?” Lewis asked as he hugged Seymour, then hesitated in front of Jimmy.
Seymour elbowed Lewis in the ribs. “You can hug him. I’m not going to think the two of you are cheating just because you’re hugging.”
Lewis groaned. “Can we please never talk about cheating again? It’s ridiculous.”
He allowed Jimmy to engulf him in a bear hug, smiling as he did so. He really did like Jimmy, and he was glad Seymour had found such a good man, or rather, that Fate had found Jimmy for him.
“We’re going to have to talk about it again, actually,” Kennedy said with a grimace. “Wallace Senior visited the facility today.”
Lewis didn’t want to talk about his presumed cheating on a man who wasn’t his mate, and he wanted to talk about Wallace Senior even less. “That can’t have been good.”
“It wasn’t. He demanded both Seymour and I be fired. Apparently, he was thinking about the reputation of the council, who wouldn’t want two cheaters to work for them. He mentioned the mates’ law.”
Lewis snorted. “I can’t imagine how that went down.”
