“Over here,” he directs one of his men. I recognize him but couldn’t say who he is, but when I see his face I do.
“Fucking hell, Gabe.” Marco rushes over and orders the man to go and get some bolt cutters.
“Fucking useless! Didn’t we tell that fool to bring this shit with him!” He looks over his shoulder at my brother who is still standing at the door. I don’t think I’ve ever seen him like this. He steps closer and drops to his knees in front of me and pulls me into a hug.
“You’re alive. You’re really alive,” he keeps repeating, and I feel his tears as they drop from his cheeks and run down my neck.
“I’m fine. I’ll be okay,” I tell him.
“Where’s the woman?” I ask as he lets go of me and holds my head in his hands and just looks at me.
“At mine. The Dr. is there taking care of her, so you’ll see her when we leave here.” He nods in reassurance.
“You know this is all O’Connor,” I tell him.
“Yes, he’s back at the yard, and he’ll pay for this, I promise you that,” he growls.
The guy returns with the bolt cutters and Marco snatches them from him and dismisses him from the room.
“He needs to go! He never gets anything fucking right,” he mumbles.
I look at my brother, and he smirks. “What am I missing?” I ask.
“We need to be in and out and shouldn’t have to be going back out to get equipment.” He huffs.
“Well, yes, quite,” my brother agrees. “There’s that and the fact he’s pissed his PA is giving him shit. And he’s trying to avoid her because he wants to fuck her,” he sniggers.
Marco presses down, letting out a growl as the chain releases from my wrist and hits the cold concrete ground with a clunk, and the bolt cutters follow as he throws them across the floor.
“Well, don’t you seem so much fucking better now! It wasn’t two minutes ago you were all upset,” he spits at my brother.
“Watch your mouth.” Nico stabs his finger into Marco’s chest, causing him to stumble.
“Fuck, look I’m sorry, but can we not talk about this right now and just get the fuck out of here.” Marco runs his hand through his hair and shakes his head, knowing that he just went too far.
I know Nico and that moment earlier wasn’t meant to happen, and he’s now trying to cover up the fact he dropped his guard.
My brother stays quiet as he nods his head, and they both reach down and help me up.
I’m a dead weight, and even though I can tell I’ve lost weight since I’ve been here, I am still over six feet and weigh a lot.
They help me out and up the stairs, but something comes over me and everything spins. I can hear them talking, but it’s like it’s all in slow motion.
I try to turn my head to look at my brother, but I feel like lead, and the next minute everything is dark.
My eyes open and I see the flickering of streetlights and hear the honking of horns.
“Stay awake, Gabe, we’re almost there.” Nico’s hand taps against my cheek as his voice repeatedly tells me to stay awake.
I wish I could. My eyes feel so tired, and I’m trying to keep them open, but I can seem to fight it.
“Shit,” Marco shouts, the car swerving before he slams the brakes hard.
My body slides to the side, and I hit my head on something. Was it the door, or the window? I don’t know, but I know it fucking hurts.
Nico and Marco are arguing around me, and normally I would find this situation really fucking funny, but I don’t feel like I have control of anything right now.
I feel lost, but if I could see her maybe … maybe then I would feel safe and in control.
