“Ah, Nico, welcome.” He meets me halfway and gestures to his men to lower their guns.

I nod at my men to do the same. I look around and see that there isn’t anyone else around other than what we have in front of us, which is good to see, as I have the place surrounded. You can never tell what you’re walking into nowadays.

Ivan laughs as we start to walk back. “I see you took care of that Irish bastard.”

I clench my jaw and glance over at him. Why would it matter to him, either way he’s getting paid and a pretty good price.

“I have no idea what you’re talking about. I heard it was suicide.” My tone remains calm.

“Come on, Nico, we all know that you can’t stand them. What a way to pay them back!” He slaps my back and stands in front of his car.

“Look, Ivan, I’m here to sign the paperwork. I have no desire to waste my time on the Irish. Do you have the documents?” I hold my hand out so I can make sure nothing has changed.

I reach up and rub my ear, letting my guys know to get ready as I’m not liking this situation.

If this shit goes south, Ivan will fucking pay for it, and these contracts will be mine even if it means he’s signed them in fucking blood.

My guys walk around the SUV and get in place.

“What’s happening here, Nico, this is just a friendly meeting?” Ivan looks around as my men have his surrounded.

“It is and once this paperwork is signed, we can move on, but something feels off, and I don’t like fucking surprises,” I say as I snatch the papers from his grasp.

I flip through the pages, when I land on the middle page, I see it. This is where the sly son of a bitch thought he could fuck me over!

I laugh darkly and walk closer to him. I raise my hand and grab Ivan’s face, shoving it down to the car bonnet.

“So, you thought you could rip me off, making me pay for contracts that were ultimately the O’Connors’. You thought that I wouldn’t realize at some point,” I spit out.

I push his head harder until I hear the pop of the metal, and I watch as his face turns red with the pressure I am applying.

“You expected me to pay the down payment and then, what, next month when you’d gone back to the motherland, the O’Connors would come knocking at my door for rent?” I laugh again.

The fucker thought he could sell the contracts to the O’Connors and then lease them to me, getting more money from us! Only problem is this isn’t a done deal with either party yet.

“It’s a good job I have my own contract prepared, one which you will sign, Ivan. I don’t care whether you're dead or alive when it’s done. But it will be done.” I shove his head once more, then step back.

I nod my head, and one of my guys moves forward and grabs Ivan’s arms from behind. Ivan’s soldiers raise their guns to shoot but my men are quicker and take them out one by one.

“You’ve been a fool, Ivan, too fucking greedy. For that you will pay,” I tell him as I head out of the warehouse toward the waiting SUV.

“Take him to the builder’s yard, and call Tommy to let him know to keep him secure until I get there, no food or water until I say,” I instruct.

I hear a chorus of “Yes boss” before I leave.

Chapter15

Nico

The traffic heading back through the city is crazy, so I pull up the messages and look for one person and one person only … Francesca.

Me: I assume you have your mobile?

Francesca: Yes. I’ve been waiting ages!

Me: You’ve been a bad girl, Francesca, and for that you will be punished.

I can see her typing and then stop, as if she wants to send a sarcastic reply but thinks better of it, either way, I’m eager to see what she has to say.
