Annie had asked a lot of questions on the drive home from the restaurant and when we went into the house, she went into the living room and made a phone call.
Me and Virge ran upstairs and changed our clothes and went to the barn to do chores. “Coming to the barn, Lucy?”
“Sure am. I want to see y’all’s horses.”
As soon as Lucy had me in the barn, she pushed me up against Windrider’s stall and laid one of her hot kisses on me. She made me so hard, I had to grab a pitchfork and start moving straw around so I wouldn’t throw her down and do her right in the fuckin stall.
While I was busy in that stall, Lucy moved on and laid a little teasing on my brother. I wasn’t sure if I liked her doing that, but I’m sure Virgil enjoyed it.
Lucy called it sisterly love.
Travis and Billy sat at the kitchen table drinking beer while Annie made phone calls in the living room.
“Kamps, I need a lot of help on this one. My step-daughter, Tammy, is missing and I don’t have a clue where to find her. The last place she was seen was in Taber, Alberta. A woman there saw her get into a black semi.”
“Company name on the truck?”
“Nothing.”
“Highway number?”
“I checked the map and Taber is on highway three, but that leads into the Trans-Canada, which is highway number one. If there are weigh stations on the Trans-Canada for the trucks heading east, I want the name and address of the owner of every black truck that was weighed on the day Tammy was in that truck.”
“Three days ago, now?”
“Yes. Let me know when you have something. Also, listen for anything in or around Taber about the kidnapping itself. I need something to get started on.”
“I’ll start on the weigh stations, Beauty. Back at you.”
“Thank you, sweetheart.”
We came into the house after chores and Annie and Lucy wanted to play poker for an hour before we went to bed. Dad was cheering up a lot, just having Annie with us. I didn’t know if she was going to help us find Tammy, but she was definitely making a difference for Dad. That was a good thing for all of us.
Chapter Sixteen
Tuesday, September 17th.
Wild Stallion Ranch.
Virge and I were in our room getting dressed for chores when Lucy opened the door and walked right in. She didn’t care if we only had our boxers on or were stark naked. She’d grown up at the ranch in Texas with Jackson and they were as close as twins. Virge was kind of startled and he tugged his jeans on real quick.
“Just came in to see if my brothers were up. I’m going to the barn. I think Bonnie Grace is missing Tammy.”
“We’re coming. Almost dressed.”
Virgil grabbed a T-shirt out of his drawer and pulled it over his head. “I’m ready. Never been in such a fuckin hurry to do chores.” He chuckled as he followed me down the stairs.
In the barn, Virge followed Lucy around like her pet goat and it made me a bit jealous because I’d always had a thing for Lucy. She was our adopted sister, just like Tammy, but that didn’t make any difference to me. We weren’t blood related, and I guess that’s how I looked at it.
“You got a horse, Virgil?” she asked him.
“Nope.”
“Why not? Don’t you want to ride with Harlan?”
“Don’t know how to ride a horse. I can ride a Harley okay.”
“Yeah, me too. I’ve got my own bike. Daddy got it for me. It was a trade-in at Mommy’s dealership where he’s the manager.”
