“We shouldn’t have to,” he shouted at Teach. “I fucking failed and now this sick fuck has her.”
“You can’t bear that weight alone, brother. There was no way you could’ve foreseen this. Shit, even with all that we pulled up, none of us saw it. You said yourself it was an abundance of caution to ready everyone. This isn’t on you.”
Virus cut his eyes to Teach. He didn’t actually agree, but there was no time for arguments.
“Look, brother, you can beat yourself up later. Even though you don’t deserve it, I know you will, but we gotta jet. Someone has probably called the pigs by now.”
Teach was right. His little temper tantrum drew attention to them. Sneaking back out the way they came, they jogged back to Teach’s bike.
Virus paced, waiting for Zombie to answer the call Teach had on speaker.
“What do you have?” his prez asked in lieu of hello.
“Nothing that points where they may be, but a look into the fucker’s head.” Teach looked to Virus to add the details.
“He’s obsessed with Rae. Looks like he had her place covered in cameras. You hear from Home?”
He heard Zombie sigh. “Apparent hit and run out on Shaddick. It doesn’t look good for him, brother.”
“Fuck,” he and Teach breathed almost simultaneously.
“Yeah,” Prez agreed.
“What about Harmon, did she have any ideas?” Virus hated that his focus wasn’t on his brother, but Rae was in the hands of a sick fuck. There was nothing he could do for Home, but he could do something for Rae.
“She said there isn’t anywhere that stands out. He spends his time at work or with her. He does have a key to her yoga studio though. I’ve routed Iron and Hook that way.”
Virus didn’t wait for any other words; he jogged back to his truck. He had a gut feeling that was exactly where they were.
He heard Teach’s voice as it faded. “Ah Fuck, Prez, he’s …” There was more, but he couldn’t make out the words.
Peeling out, he drove like a bat out of hell. He noticed Teach tailing him. Pulling in at the studio, he didn’t bother with stealth, nor did he wait for Teach to dismount or for the brothers Zombie sent.
He sprinted around back, almost wiping out by the dumpster. Lifting a booted foot to the back door, Teach slipped between him and his target. “Fuck, brother. Calm down.”
“I can’t calm down. My woman is in there with that fucker, I just know she is.”
“I get it, but if you kick it in, he could hurt her out of surprise or intention. Let me handle the door.”
“Hurry then or I’m going in my way.”
Teach was taking forever to pick the three locks, but when Teach finally stood tall, he knew they were in.
