“Then let’s stay in here and let everything else carry on without us,” I whisper, smiling.
“I really wish we could, Sweetheart. But we both know that sooner or later, my brothers would come charging in here to drag you away.”
“If not the others, then the girls certainly would. We have so much to do to get ready for next weekend.”
Christian laughs as he turns his head so I can see his blue eyes.
“I can’t wait to marry you. I know I shouldn’t want to; I should stay away and keep you safe, but I’m too selfish to give you up.” He leans in and kisses me gently before sitting back again.
“I never want to be without you, Daddy.” I watch as Christian’s face softens, and I can see that there is something on his mind. “What are you thinking?” I ask, worried he’s about to tell me something terrible. When he doesn’t answer immediately, panic causes my chest to tighten. I know that look; it means whatever he’s about to say, I’m not going to like. “What’s going on? I can see you want to tell me something,” I point out, causing Christian to sigh.
“I want to ask you a question, and I want you to be completely honest with me,” he says, turning so he can kneel in front of me. I sit up straight, preparing myself for anything he might throw at me.
“Okay,” I answer wearily. He takes a deep breath and cups my hands between his.
“Do you still need us to be your daddies?”
The bath opens and swallows me into a deep black hole. That was the last thing I thought he would ever say to me.
“You don’t want to be my daddy anymore?” I ask through the lump in my throat, pulling my hands from his. But he grabs them back and holds them tight, stopping me from removing them again.
“Of course I do, Sweetheart. Being your Daddy is everything to me; I love nothing more than looking after and guiding you.”
“Then why do you want to stop?” I ask, a tear sliding down my face.
“Trust me, I don’t. I want to be your Daddy forever, even when we are old and grey. But you have grown so much in the last nine months, and I can’t help thinking you don’t need me or any of us like you did before.”
“I do need you; I will always need you,” I whisper as my bottom lip quivers. Christian smiles and cups my cheek as he uses his thumb to wipe away my tears.
“Sweetheart, you have become so strong and independent in all the right ways. We could not be prouder of you and how far you come, but you don’t need us, not like you used to.”
“But I do still need you like that!” I protest, moving my legs to kneel in front of him. “I don’t want our dynamic to change; I want you to be my daddy always.”
“Unless we are arguing, or more like, you are telling me off?” Christian says with a smile.
“Exactly! But then I will tell you when I want you to go out of Daddy mode like I did the other night. Otherwise, I don’t want anything to change with you or the others. I love that you are my daddies; I like being your Baby girl.” A sob slips from my lips, and Christian pulls me into his arms.
“You will always be my Baby girl; nothing will ever change that,” he whispers into my hair. “I’m sorry, Sweetheart. I never meant to upset you.”
“Well, you did,” I snap, slapping his chest. “What did you think was going to happen? I would turn around and say, ‘Oh no, it’s fine. I want to call you Christian,’ do you not know me at all?” I exclaim, slapping his chest again.
Christian laughs as he pulls me into his arms and holds me tight. I press my head against his chest and let the tears stream for a moment before pushing them back down.
“Do you forgive me?” he whispers into my hair.
“I haven’t decided yet,” I sniff as he kisses my head.
“How about I make it up to you?” he asks, leaning back so I can see the mysterious smirk on his face.
“How do you plan to do that?”
In one move, Christian lifts me as he stands from the water. I throw my arms around his neck as he climbs out of the bath.
“Where are you taking me? We’re soaking wet!” I laugh as we drip water all over the floor
“To bed so I can show you how sorry I am and make up for upsetting you.”
“Mrs Brown only changed the bedding this morning; she will go mad if she has to do it again!” I laugh, envisioning her shouting at Christian. She would never yell at me, I’m her favourite, but she will give him hell.
