“Put your seatbelt on and do as you are told for a little while. I promise it will be worth it.” The way his eyes burn into mine, I know he’s about to blow my mind. “Are you going to be a good girl?” I nod slowly, unable to look anywhere but at him. “That’s what I thought,” he winks before kissing my lips and returning to his phone.
We sit silently for a moment as he grins at whatever he’s organising. As soon as he’s finished, he connects the phone to the car and pulls up the number for the house phone. It starts to ring as he pulls out of the parking space and heads for the exit.
“O’Reilly.” Jason's voice calls out through the speakers.
“Hey, it’s just me,” Maximus starts. “Just giving you all a heads up that Shorty’s with me. We won’t be home until tomorrow evening,” he explains whilst swiping his card at the barrier, allowing us to leave.
“Where’s Layton?” he asks.
“I sent him back. We don’t need him; I’ve got her.”
“No worries, I will give him the day off if he can’t get hold of Terry to see if he needs him for anything.”
“Are Terry and Daddy still away?” I ask. Christian was only meant to be gone for a few hours the other day, and it's now been three days. I’ve hardly heard from him, which is very unusual as he always makes a point of calling me at least three times a day when he’s forced to be away. But I've had nothing this time besides three very short text messages.
“Yes, Jazzy. Don’t worry, though. I spoke to Terry less than twenty minutes ago, and everything is fine. He reckons they will be home tomorrow evening, so don’t worry about them. Concentrate on having a good time with just the two of you. I will see you when you get back. Love you.”
“Love you too,” I answer with a smile as Maximus reaches over and places a hand on my thigh.
“Have fun, you two, and try to stay out of trouble,” Jason laughs.
“Where’s the fun in that?” Maximus laughs, his hand sliding further up my leg. I can’t help grinning as I slide my butt closer to the edge of the seat, giving him better access to the part that’s throbbing for his touch. Knowing what I’m after, he grins but removes his hand and winks, leaving me aching for his touch.
“You okay after seeing the two bitches?” Maximus asks as we head out of town.
“Yeah, I am,” I answer with a smile. “It sucks to know that our friendship meant so little to them, but I’m happier than I’ve ever been, and I don’t need them in my life.” Maximus lifts my hand to his lips and kisses my knuckles.
“You have come a long way, Shorty, and I know I speak for all of us when I say we couldn’t be prouder of you.” Leaning my head against his shoulder, I close my eyes and smile.
“Thank you, Daddy.”
Maximus kisses my head before I sit up, letting him concentrate on driving.
“You’re welcome, Shorty. Now, why don’t you sort some music out? We have a thirty-minute drive ahead of us.”
I don’t need telling twice, especially as I know Maximus will have my favourite band ready for us to listen to. As much as he sighs, just as he is now, I know he would never stop me from listening to them.
Nickelbackstarts playing from the stereo, and I place my hand on his thigh as he drives and tells me about the building he visited this morning and his plans for it.
* * *
Thirty minutes later, Maximus pulls off the road and heads down a smaller one. I look ahead, hoping to get some idea of where we are heading; it's then that a huge hotel comes into view.
“Where are we?” I ask excitedly.
“Somewhere I’ve wanted to bring you for years,” Maximus grins as he stops outside the main entrance. A guy around the same age as me jogs down the steps to the car and stops beside my door.
“Open that door, and I will break your legs,” Maximus warns as he climbs from behind the wheel. The guy instantly jumps back and looks like he is going to soil himself, stumbling over an apology. Maximus storms to my door and opens it as the guy jumps back further, wanting to put as much distance between them as possible. The door opens, and he holds out his hand to help me out of the car.
“Was that really necessary?” I ask under my breath. He places a hand on the base of my back and leads us up the steps, chucking his car keys to the trembling valet.
“For the first time in weeks, I don’t have to share you with anyone. So yes, it was necessary. No one will touch you except me for the next thirty hours.” It takes everything in me not to stumble as my heart rate skyrockets and my body shakes with need.
Until I moved in with the guys, I had no idea they could be so ruthless or that I would like it as much as I do. At some point, every single one of them has shown me just how dangerous they can be and why everyone who knows the name O’Reilly understands what will happen to them if they get on the wrong side of the brothers. Well, everyone but me. I know that the guys would never hurt me in any way. Nothing will ever come between us again; people have tried and failed. Our parents included.
Maximus leads me through a beautiful entrance hall to a reception desk where a woman is smiling. I don’t miss how she looks at him, and only him. I can see the lust in her eyes, and I don’t like it. Maximus may be drop-dead gorgeous, but he’s also mine.
As we come to a stop at the desk, I lean into his side and place my left hand with my large engagement ring on his chest to ensure she knows he is taken. I feel, rather than hear, Maximus chuckle under his breath as he kisses the top of my head affectionately. The woman does a double take at the ring and then quickly looks at me as she introduces herself and welcomes us to the hotel and spa.
