“He wanted to know if you are a threat to him and what you deal in.” Travis stands up and crosses his arms over his chest. “I swear to god, O’Reilly, I will not let you put my girl in danger; she has been through enough shit without you dragging her down.”

“You think I wantmy girlin danger? Do you really believe I would endanger Verity or any of Jasmine's friends?” Stepping back from the desk, sending my chair flying backwards, I storm around to the front of it and stand inches from Travis, who uncrosses his arms, looking as ready to fight as I am.

“I need to know what he said, and then I will know what action to take. If I thought Verity was in danger just by being around Jasmine, I would ask you to takeboth of themand run. To hide Jasmine away from me and my brothers until we could take care of things.” Travis stares at me as what I said sinks in.

“I’ve done all I can to keep that man and his shit away from my family for the last month. I don’t need another reason for him to be contacting me. I will keep Verity from Jasmine if it’s for her own safety.”

My anger explodes, the red mist starts to descend, and I act before I think. Grabbing him by his jacket, I pin him to the wall, taking him by surprise.

“You have no fucking idea how much shit is going down here right now, so you coming in here throwing a tantrum is not fucking helping!” I snarl in his face. Travis attempts to push me away, but I’m stuck tight as I stare at him.

“I will fucking kill you if anything happens to my fiancée because of you lot!” Getting in my face as he grabs my top and spins us around so I’m pinned to the wall. He goes to swing at me, but I’m quicker and punch him in the stomach, winding him and giving me a chance to knock him to his knees. “You stupid fucking piece of shit!” he snarls, jumping back to his feet before we throw ourselves at each other and end up on the wooden floor.

“Enough!”

Someone grabs me from behind at the same time as someone else pulls Travis to his feet. Jason steps between us with his hands out, trying to keep as much distance between us as possible.

“For fuck’s sake! I thought we were past this shit!” he yells as I shrug off whoever is holding me. Travis shrugs off Terry but doesn’t stop staring at me. “What the hell are you fighting about now?”

“Ask your arsehole of a brother,” Travis snarls. “He's the one who has pissed off Nicholson!”

“What the fuck is he talking about?” Jason yells, turning his full attention to me.

“I don’t know, ask him! He’s the one that came in here shouting about it!” I point to Travis as he crosses his arms over his chest. Jason turns around to face Travis as I walk away and grab a bottle of water from the side. Needing to do something, anything to distract myself.

“Tell me what’s going on?” Jason asks calmly. I can feel Travis’s eyes following me, but I don’t allow myself to look back at him.

“I had a call today from him, asking questions about you guys. What you are into? Are you a threat to him? Did I know anything about the uprising against you? He also asked if you were the type to kill dealers?”

“What did you tell him?” I ask, sitting behind my desk chair and opening the bottle, desperate to hide how much my hands are shaking.

“Fuck all. I told him we hardly speak, and as far as I’m concerned, you don’t deal with anything that would be considered a threat to him. As for killing dealers, I told him you only would if they were dealing on your properties, but even then, you would give a warning first.”

“Thank you,” I sigh, sitting back in my seat.

“I didn’t do it for you, arsehole. I did it for Jaz. I don’t give two shits what happens to you.” Travis walks up to my desk and leans on it again. “But like I said, there is nothing I wouldn’t do to protect my fiancée.”

“Fiancée?” Jason asks as I look up at Travis, the question in my eye. “Jazzy never said anything.”

“Because Verity isn’t telling her until you return from the honeymoon. She doesn’t want to take any focus off Jaz,” Travis explains, looking at Jason before turning his attention back to me.

“Congratulations,” I say, surprising myself how genuinely happy I am for him. He may be a pain in my arse, but I know he loves Jasmine's best friend and makes her happy; that’s something I will always be happy for. That girl struggled with her life, but I know the Donavons will always protect her.

“Fuck off,” he growls, pulling a seat in front of the desk and falling into it. I can't help but smile, knowing that’s his way of thanking me.

“We would never knowingly put Verity in danger,” I point out. Travis nods as he knows that deep down. “But lots has been happening in a short space of time, and we are doing all we can to keep the girls and ourselves safe.”

“What’s been going on?” he asks as Jason approaches us, grabbing a second chair. “Did you really kill six dealers in one night?”

“Yes, I had a very good reason, and that’s all I’m saying on the matter.” Jason looks at me and mouths, “Carol.” I nod once, watching his shoulders relax a little.

“As for what’s been going on? How long have you got?” I sigh, rubbing the bridge of my nose.

“Not long, so stop stalling and tell me what the fuck you’ve gotten yourself into this time, O’Reilly.”
