“Do you want us to arrest him, sir?” I whip my head around to see who opened their dumb-ass mouth to speak. One look at him, and I want to pick a fight for fun. It would be foolish and tough, but after years of practice, I’d beat his ass.
I glare at the lead uniformed prick who looks and sounds like he ‘roids up for breakfast. “For what, cunt? You’re in my establishment, insulting and harassing me with a flimsy warrant. I’ll be out in hours and I’ll be filing a nice lawsuit.” I wink at him.
Two men come down, interrupting my rant, which pisses me off. “Boss, the place is empty. There’s no sign of women held captive in here.” I smirk at them.
“You’re all wasting your time. I don’t need to hold women captive, unlike some,” I remarked, giving the governor an obvious stare.
“Do another sweep and make it thorough,” the governor says, sneering at me.
“That’s fine. Everything here is on camera. Every single thing you and your men do is being recorded, so I hope your men are aware that I’ll be ready to press charges if anything is tampered with, destroyed, or otherwise ruined.”
“Is that a threat?” AG Mirren questions. The little pussy is pathetic.
“No, it’s a promise. I’m aware of my rights, and my lawyer is, too.” I cross my arms and smirk.
Mickey walks up to me and says, “Boss, Mr. O’Neill is on the line.”
“Good. Perfect timing.” He hands me the phone. “Hello, James. Please come to the club. I’ve received a warrant, and I’ve been raided by Governor Saunders and Attorney General Mirren.”
“They have a warrant?”
“Yes. They have a flimsy one that’s signed by one of their buddies.”
“I’m on my way.”
“Good. I’ll see you soon.” I end the call and hand back the phone. “Excuse me.” With a hint of arrogance, I walk around the bar and pour myself a drink without a damn care in the world because I know it’s pissing them off. “Would you care for one while you wait? Oh, and is it normal for you to serve a warrant with a hint of booze on your breath?”
“We were celebrating my engagement when the warrant was issued. Couldn’t miss a perfect opportunity,” Mirren said, sounding too damn smug. I wonder what dumb bitch he got to marry him. She’s got to be after his money or status because he’s a prick too. There’s nothing special about this slender dweeb in glasses who is getting too old to be hanging on the coattails of another grown man.
We have a bit of a silent standoff. The fucking legal thug with his gun stares at me, trigger finger itchy. “Calm your tits there, Rambo. You aren’t here to be offloading. If you come here on a non-working night, you could offload.” I toss him a wink and chuckle. For a brief moment he actually looks interested.
Another ten minutes of searching finds absolutely nothing, and they’re forced to leave with their tails between their legs, of course. My lawyer arrives about twenty minutes after they leave. “Sorry that I took so damn long. I was sleeping when I got the notification and call,” he explains, looking nervous as he enters my club all frazzled, hair out of place.
I wave him off and raise my glass, waving it. “It’s fine, James. You live thirty minutes away. I’m surprised you made it here that fast.”
“Sure. I’ll take a glass of whatever you got. By the way, I did break a few traffic laws, so I might get a nice ticket in mail.”
“Send me the bill. I’ll add it to the other charges I’m sending the AG.”

A whiny groan comes from the side of the bed, and I swear it’s annoying as fuck as I’m trying to sleep. I turn, and my face is licked.
“What the hell? Go away.” I shoved his face back while whipping my own head against the pillow, trying to get some space and clean the slobber off me. I should have him in the other room, but I’ve been neglecting him lately and he’s a big baby.
Still, I know it’s time for me to get up and take Cain for a walk. I crawl out of bed even though I just got home only a few hours ago after dealing with some bullshit from our enemies. If I had to go to the docks in the morning and then the damn governor at the club. One damn problem after another.
Gov. Donavan Saunders is never gonna let up until we deal with him for good, but there’s nothing we can do just yet. There are way too many people who know he’s number one on our shit list.
He’s been a thorn in our sides for longer than I can remember. We tried to play nice, but it was no dice with him. He wants all or nothing from us. My brother Jack doesn’t understand that Saunders is gonna have to be put down. Jack’s still holding out hope that this will end peacefully, but with a man like Saunders who feels like he’s untouchable because of his rank, he’s too damn stubborn for his own good; last night told me that. I must find a way to hit him where it hurts so he learns who he’s fucking with.
I climb out of bed because sleep is for the dead, and then I get myself ready because there’s nothing else I can do except take this beast of a dog out before he pisses on my floor. He’s a well-trained animal, but there’s only so much one can do when they’ve got to go, and Cain’s getting antsy.
I rub my eyes and walk over to the bathroom to take a piss and get my day started. Fuck, I hope this doesn’t turn into another shit show. I need a damn vacation with a hot broad riding my dick or something. Checking out my face, I need a shave, but it can wait because I’m tired as fuck right now. I slip on a pair of joggers and a tee shirt and then give my big boy a whistle.
“Come on, you big baby. Let’s take you outside,” I say, holding the bedroom door open. His paws scrape the wooden floors wildly as he makes his way through my bedroom and out into the hallway. He’s trained to hunt those who would try to harm me, but the rest of the time, he’s extremely chill. Tough as nails when needed, something that could be said about all of us MacNamara men—except for my father, who was always like a wild fucking chihuahua or something.
I lead him into my secured backyard so he can do his business and play for a bit while I check in on my daily numbers for the club. I have to be at Mac’s around ten to make sure everything is running smoothly, but I plan to have a drink or two and unwind now that John has been found.
