“I know, I know. That’s why I found this prick for you and wrapped him up in a pretty bow.” We walk into the main room and there he is, tied up with a fucking red bow on his head. I do my best not to laugh, but that shit is fucking hysterical.
“Why, thank you for the wedding present, Fieri,” Jack says.
“My pleasure. Don’t say I never gave you anything.” He chuckles. I walk around Espinosa and snarl and growl like a damn wild animal. We have no intention of killing him so quickly. I need answers, and we’re not leaving until he gives them to us.
I rush him, and he flinches like a scared little bitch, so much so he nearly sends his chair falling onto the floor, but one of the men catches it. “Thanks for the save. I can’t have him busting his head before I get answers.”
“Please spare me, and I’ll tell you what you want to know.”
“There’s nothing you could tell us that would spare your life.”
“I didn’t orchestrate the kidnapping, and my sister tried to do the right thing. She was murdered to protect his secret.”
“Whose secret?”
“The secret of who really set it up.” My gut tells me who it was, and from the look on Jack’s face, he knows it too. The one who fucking pulled the damn trigger. The only person who had a motive to get rid of John in the first place.
“Go on.”
“Your father.” We both glare at him and before we can speak, he blurts out more. “I have proof that your father was in on your brother’s kidnapping.”
“Go on. Tell us.”
“I want to live.”
“Why would we do that when you tried to kill me and have me framed?”
“I just wanted to survive. Your father is evil.”
“What’s your motherfucking proof?”
“I have it on file. All our meetings. He doesn’t know that I recorded them. My sister kept records too, but they went up in her house with your men who tried to find John. I was only there to kill that fucker because I wanted to get revenge for my sister. Do you have any idea how deep we were when this happened? My sister loved that boy, and for what? She lost her life to protect him. I never wanted anything bad to happen to him, but everyone else could burn. Hurting a kid had never been in my plans either. Your dad was the one who wanted him gone, permanently.”
“A word, Connor.”
Jack and I take a step away. “What are you thinking?” I ask him.
“Dad never gave his sister a chance. She deserved to live, and he took her life.”
“Yeah, but this fucker helped kill so many of our men.”
“And he killed our enemies too. If he leads us to the truth, I’m willing to send him off as payment for his sister.” I nod.
We return back to a tied-up Espinosa. “The evidence?”
“It’s in my bag. I always carry a copy on me and in a secret spot in a locker.” Fieri grabs his bag and digs through it until he finds the small device.
“This better not be a fucking game because this will determine if we set you free.”
“It’s not. I swear. I want your fucking son-of-a-bitch father to pay for what he’s done. My sister shouldn’t have died just because she wanted your brother to live.”
“No, she shouldn’t have. If she had lived, I would have found my brother and my future wife a long time ago.”
Fieri plays the tape, and on it, my father’s voice can be heard with that piece-of-shit Giles working out a plan to kidnap my brother.“I don’t just want him kidnapped, I want him found dead in a ditch somewhere. Of course, I want you to make it look real and like a ransom. We’ll put it on the damn Fieri family. They’ve been on my list for far too fucking long. I can’t put it on Saunders like I’d like to because that fuck wouldn’t harm John.”
“What about your other boys?”
“Not when they’re around. One, they’re my heirs, and two, they’re deadly and you might not make it out alive.”
