Page 31 of Twisted Contract

It’s time to sit my father down. Jack and I confront him in his home, and he looks petrified. “Dad, you weren’t being honest with us, and we want fucking answers right now,” Jack snarls, slamming him back onto the sofa by his shoulder. “Saunders is not John’s dad, and neither are you.”

“What was going on with you and Mom?” I add.

“That’s not right. That can’t be. She was having an affair with him. That bastard belonged to Saunders for sure.”

“Did you just call John a bastard?”

“Well, isn’t he? He’s not my kid.”

“If you knew you weren’t the father, then why did you force Mom to have the baby?” I ask. He didn’t give us a good excuse last time, but we need answers now.

“Because she fucking betrayed me. She had an affair with that bastard. I wanted his head, and I wanted her to pay for what she did. And she paid, all right, with her fucking life.” I punch him dead in the face, hearing the crunch and breaking his nose.

He shouts, but neither of us care. Jack continues, “I can’t believe Mom was cheating on you. She never left the house, so there was no way she had a chance.”

“Oh, she had a chance, all right. With all her fucking charity work, that’s how she met the bastard.” I try to think about all the times my mom was out, and I would say that there were a fair few over the years, but honestly we were working so much we didn’t know, and so was our father. There is a good chance he’s telling the truth about this.

This still doesn’t explain why he isn’t John’s father, if she was having an affair with him.

“Did you test his DNA? Or did you just test your wife and John? Maybe his wife was a whore too.”

“Watch what you fucking say about my mother, because I’m one step from choking the life out of you.”

“Whatever Mom did didn’t change the fact that you were a bastard too. Like you didn’t have affair after affair.”

“That’s different. Like you can see, she had a child that didn’t belong to me.”

“Yeah, well, how many other siblings do we have that none of us know about?”

“None, because I was fucking smart about it.”

“Are you sure?”

“Positive.”

“I got fixed before John was conceived.” So that’s how he was sure John wasn’t his.

“Why would you do that? It’s a little crazy at your age unless you have a reason.”

“One of my whores ended up pregnant, and I took care of it. Made sure it wouldn’t happen again. So, you don’t have any other siblings. Now, if you’re fucking done, could you give me a towel or let me take care of my fucking face.”

I walk over to the mini bar and grab a towel, tossing it at him. “Now what are we going to do? You fucking lied to us and told us that he raped her. I could have fucking shot him right in the head in front of everybody in downtown Chicago.”

“Not my problem that you’re a damn hot head.”

“Do you even hear yourself sometimes? You raised us, you idiot. You goaded us into believing something ridiculously evil about a man who already hates us.”

“I’m going to go talk to Saunders again and get some answers, unless you’re willing to give me the fucking truth. The whole damn truth. And don’t playA Few Good Menwith me and tell me I can’t handle it.”

“I gave you the truth.”

“Bullshit.”

I have so many damn questions, and no damn answers. “Look, I don’t have time for this shit. My wife is calling me, and honestly, I’d rather be getting some pussy instead of here talking to you, playing the circle game.”

“Are you coming, Jack?”

“Yep, right behind you.” Jack can’t stop glaring at my father, even as we start walking away.
