I was hoping for something that could never happen. Without being able to turn back time, nothing would right this wrong. The only reason the Gods hadn’t killed Daire was because Raina kept them from doing so. The precarious peace between them now was for me. Because of me. I had to accept that this was as good as it would get.
“I know. I’m sorry too. I just wish I could make this all go away.” I sucked in a shaky breath, willing my emotions to calm.
Daire caught my chin in his hand, forcing me to meet his gaze. “Did I hear you correctly? Pretty sure you just said that you love me.”
A teasing smile played about his lips. His green eyes were all serious. Yeah, I guess that had blurted out, hadn’t it?
“Did I?” Pretending not to know what he was talking about, I batted my lashes, lowering my eyes.
“Don’t play that game with me. You’re not getting out of this one.” His hand drifted down from my chin to wrap around my neck. “Look at me, Angel.”
A thrill of excitement shot through me as his hand tightened. “I suppose I may have admitted to having some kind of feelings for you.”
“And here I thought you hated me.” His thumb came up to graze my bottom lip. He leaned in like he might kiss me, stopping short of actually doing so.
Swallowing hard, I said, “I thought I did too.”
“So what changed?” Daire’s breath was warm on my skin. God, how I craved him.
“When I figure it out, I’ll let you know.” Unable to restrain myself, I strained against his hold on my throat, pressing my lips to his.
Daire let me dominate the kiss. Parting his lips, he welcomed my tongue as it slid into his mouth. My hand glided up the back of his head to fist a handful of his hair. I pulled hard enough to make him groan as I entangled my tongue with his. He kissed me back with a heated passion that rang with emotion.
There was so much Daire didn’t say. He felt it though. I sensed it. Maybe one day he would give those feelings words.
CHAPTER FIVE
CLOVER
Despite Blaze’s attempt to get Daire to change his mind, it wasn’t happening. When the following night came and we readied ourselves for the return to Paradise, Daire was more determined than ever.
He dressed casually, like himself. A black t-shirt and jeans with a leather jacket. His short ebony hair was slightly disheveled, like he’d been running his hands through it. The small lightning bolt tattooed beneath one eye was a memorable addition to his features. Hopefully we wouldn’t have to go back after tonight.
I ran my fingers through the long blue wig I wore. Along with my studded bra and short skirt, I felt like a badass mermaid. This time I wore heavy makeup with a splash of color. Blue around my eyes to match the wig. Black lipstick gave me a much darker look than I was used to, but it helped make me look nothing like myself. I almost didn’t recognize the person looking back at me in the mirror.
We’d agreed to meet Raina and Havoc inside. Going in together would make it obvious that we knew each other. Safer not to advertise that right off the bat.
As Daire and I entered the lobby, I was immediately struck with nerves. I had a different identification this time. Anew identity. What if the doorman somehow saw through my disguise and remembered me from last time?
My fears were unfounded. The man barely looked twice at me. We were offered the tour by a different hostess than last time. We politely declined.
“This doesn’t look too crazy,” Daire said when we entered the club. He scanned the crowd of leather and lace wearing patrons.
“Wait until we go downstairs. That’s where the real action happens.” I paused, looking around for Raina. We weren’t allowed to bring our phones inside, so I couldn’t text her.
“What are we waiting for then? Let’s go downstairs.” Taking my hand, Daire pulled me along to the large staircase on one side of the room.
“Stop rushing,” I admonished, trying to slow him down. “We have to blend in, remember? You’re acting like a horny first timer. Don’t be so obvious.”
Daire flashed me a wink and a grin. “I am a horny first timer. Come on. Show me where Blaze fucked you last time you were here.”
As we descended the stairs, I hoped like hell that I wouldn’t find my best friend down there getting plowed. We were close but not that kind of close. Just like last time, the downstairs was packed with people getting frisky. I was relieved to see no sign of Raina.
Daire took in the many people getting it on and the various types of BDSM equipment. His gaze lingered on a woman who’d been bound and gagged while two men whipped her ass.
“Damn. Maybe we should have brought the other guys. This place looks like fun.”
I rolled my eyes and nodded to the currently occupied sex chair where Blaze and I had enjoyed some time together. “That weird S shaped chair over there. That’s where Blaze fucked me.Nothing too kinky, but it was wild to do it in front of so many people. There are private rooms over there.”
