MAVERICK
This fucking backfired.
I thought sending Silas away would be good for him.
He was getting too close to the girl, even I could see that. It was one thing to find a new toy to play with, and something completely different to become obsessed with a girl. Especiallythisgirl.
He wouldn’t be gone long, I had no doubt about it. I just needed some intel on the local gangs and MC chapters in New Orleans. There were nomad bikers here in New Orleans that used to be a branch of the Heartless Saints. Daniel Hayes had taken control with thousands of men under him. It was surprising to see so many members leave the club behind, and even more surprising that they’d faced no repercussions for it. It was a wonder the Heartless Saints hadn’t been disbanded before now, or that there had been so many of them in Chicago, just waiting for us to eradicate them.
But now that news of Hayes’ demise had traveled across the country, I needed to know if there would be other members who would try to take what was mine.
That was why I’d sent my brothers off on the errand—an errand that I would have delegated to someone else had we been in Chicago, where we were supposed to be.
But since we were here in New Orleans, Killian and Silas could make themselves useful and do a little recon for me.
Putting some distance between Silas and the girl was a bonus.
How the fuck should I have known I would get stuck to playing chauffeur?
And her car justconvenientlystopped working? This had Silas’ dirty fingerprints all over it.
The fucking things I did for my brothers.
I’d seen men wet themselves facing off with me, yet when it came to these two brats, I found myself unable to say no.
My fists clenched around the steering wheel as I pulled up to the motel where the little club princess was staying.
It hadn’t been that long since she arrived, and I wondered, had Silas not been so fucking obsessed with her, had we left her alone, would she have settled down in New Orleans?
Perhaps found some straitlaced fuck to marry, have kids of her own, and forget all about her past.
For some reason, the thought made me murderous.
Toward the hypothetical straitlaced fuck.
I shook my head.
Now I sounded as obsessed as Silas.
I put the gear in park and got out of the car, waiting. Silas said Mila had changed rooms. I wondered if she realized there were men trying to look for her. Only problem was, we still didn’t know why.
With Daniel Hayes gone, they should have left his daughter alone. She had nothing to offer, no club secrets to dispose of, so why was the club still so interested?
Something wasn’t adding up.
Perhaps it was a good thing Silas was obsessed. It gave me time to figure out this whole mess while keeping her close.
It didn’t take her long to leave the room. Her work uniform was on. The shirt fitted tightly to her torso and showed off her curves.
She paused when she noticed me, which told me Silas didn’t tell her I would be the one to pick her up, not him.
Would that be a problem? It wasn’t like she had any other options.
She could call for a ride, but those were expensive, and I doubted anyone would be willing to drive to this part of the city.
“Where—” She took a deep breath. “Where’s Silas?”
“He had some business to take care of, so you’re stuck with me, little monster.”
