Lucky for her, this devil didn’t want to break her.

I just… wanted her.

I would devour her whole until she understood just who owned her.

My perfect little whore.

And what was more, she would enjoy every moment of it. She would come back and beg me for more, confident that she owned every fiber of my very being as well.

I wasn’t a man others could easily control, but to be owned by an angel—yeah, it didn’t sound so bad.

My eyes made their way to Killian. With his past, I was sure he would rather chance a bullet to the head than let any woman own him.

But the fucker’s perception was skewed, so what the fuck did he know?

I wasn’t wrong about this… about Mila.

She was the one for us.

The one Maverick could fuss over and protect, the one who would bring Killian out of his cynical shell, and the one who was… mine. Just mine.

But for all that shit to happen, she couldn’t fear us. Which would be the fucking case if I gave into my instinct and did what I always did when I wanted something.

Take, without any care for the consequences.

Fuck.

I wanted her to want this, to want me, and that shit wouldn’t happen if I just abducted her and took her home, no matter how much my instincts were screaming at me to do just that.

“I want to spend a few weeks here in New Orleans,” I said.

Killian and Maverick shared a look.

“We have things to do in Chicago,” Maverick said, always thinking about the family business. It was always about the family business—and revenge—with him.

“You guys can go. Killian’s already decided she’ll be our downfall, so he’s obviously not interested in the girl and you”—I pointed at Maverick—“I don’t even know what you’re thinking half of the time. You’ve been so focused on getting back our empire, you forgot about yourself.”

“You say that like it’s a bad thing,” Maverick said, his voice calm.

He was always so fucking calm.

Most of the time, I depended on it to keep myself grounded, but there were times like this, when it just annoyed the fuck out of me.

“It’s not a bad thing, okay? But we spent years obsessing over this revenge. We already got it.”

Maverick shook his head. “This is only the beginning, little brother.”

I looked away, not saying anything.

I wasn’t fucking stupid.

Getting revenge on Daniel Hayes and taking back what was ours would be the easy part.

The hard part was what came after.

The hard part was ensuring that now that we had the empire, we would be able to keep it. And what we had, a lot of other fuckers wanted.

“We need to show others that the Tiernan brothers are stronger than ever. To be a united front, no matter what,” Maverick said.
