“I want to apologize!”

“Weird. I haven’t heard ‘I’m sorry.’”

“I’m sorry!”

“It’s not enough. You have to tell me the truth.”

I grit my teeth, and she hangs up the phone.

I groan and throw it across the room. Luckily, it hits the carpet and bounces, not doing any damage.

No matter what happens at this dinner party, I can never tell Meredith the real truth.

ChapterTwenty-Nine

MEREDITH

Just because I’vedecided not to let Logan touch me doesn’t mean that I don’t want him towantto.

The next morning, I pick out a crop top and a low-cut pair of jeans, knowing how crazy my pierced bellybutton makes him. I’m not showing yet, even if I did put on a bit of weight, so I can still fit in my regular clothes.

When I walk into the office, Javier wolf-whistles at me, and I laugh.

“You look amazing, Mere.” He hugs me. “Are you feeling better?”

“Much better.”

Paul’s checking me out from across the room, and the petty side of me can’t help but wish Logan was here to see that, but he’s running late.

When he does walk in, he barely looks at me, dropping his briefcase on his desk and slamming the door shut.

Now I just need an excuse to go in there.

Dina nudges me. “There’s some paperwork in his office that needs to be finished up.”

I give her a grateful smile and walk over, knocking on the door.

“Come in!"

I open the door, shutting it behind me.

He glares at me. “What do you want?”

“You're in a bad mood this morning.”

“Yeah, it’s almost like my hot, pregnant employee is breaking dress code and making me crazy.”

I grin. “Oh? Just a little bellybutton makes you crazy?”

“You know it does. I was with you when you got it pierced.”

I snicker. “I thought Mother was going to ground me forever.”

“Ended up only being a week.” He doesn’t crack a smile, just staring at my face.

I slide my hand down my body, and he follows it before shaking his head and focusing again on my eyes.

“You’re not going to win this,” Logan growls.
