Chapter Twenty-Four Part Two
I Know Who Truly Cares For Me
Kaden
FaithandConnorarechattering on and on in the back seat about Tyler being a psycho for following me into the restroom and how hot Luke is for protecting me. I have to agree, it was pretty hot when he threatened Tyler.
When I spotted Tyler and his wife coming our way I froze. Making eye contact set me into panic mode. The bastard fucking smirked at me. I’ve never hated anyone in my life like I hated him in that moment. I went to the restroom to splash some water on my face, knowing if I stayed where I was I may make a scene. I couldn’t do that to Luke.
When I came out of the restroom, Tyler was there.
“It’s good to see you, Kaden.”
“Leave me alone, Tyler. Go have dinner with your wife and forget I was here.”
“What’s wrong? I thought you’d be happy to see me.” Tyler steps in closer.
“What could possibly make you think that?”
“I don’t know. Maybe because we were together for a long time. I thought we loved each other. I know I loved you.” He raises his hand to my face, attempting a gentle touch.
“Tyler, do not touch me.” I slap his hand away. Tyler gets right in my face.
“Don’t. I’m trying to be nice.” His tone turns from seething to tender so fast it gives me whiplash. “I’ve missed you. Haven’t you missed me?” His face is an inch from mine making me very uncomfortable. I duck my head to avoid eye contact with him.
“Kaden, is there a problem here?”
I’ll never forget the moment Luke walked into that hallway.
“Kaden, you okay?” Ender knows I’m in my head.
“Yeah, I’m good. It was not something I was prepared for, but I’ll be fine.”
“What did he say to you?” Faith asks from the back.
“Nothing worth a damn. More lies, that’s all.”
“God, I wish Luke would have decked him. I would have given anything to see that.” Connor loves drama more than anyone I know. His obsession with reality TV shows is out of control.
We arrive at my house before anyone else can add their two cents. Faith and Connor get out to give me hugs they know I need right now. Ender leaves the car running, following me into my building.
“Luke is umm…something else.” Ender says when the elevator doors close. “You guys are getting pretty serious, huh?”
“I’d say so.” I tell him, smiling at the thought.
“I’m glad. He’s a good guy.”
“Yeah, he is.”
The doors open and Ender throws his arm around my shoulders pulling me into his side as we walk to my apartment door.
“You know I love you, right?” Ender says, leaning his head on mine.
“Of course, always.” I kiss his head when we get to my door. He turns and hugs me.
“Now get in there or Luke will come kick my ass.” Ender nudges me.
“Thanks. I’ll call you tomorrow.” I laugh at him feigning fear.
