Page 28 of Just Is Not Enough

“Hey.” My voice is barely audible when I answer the call, relaxing back in the chair behind the desk.

“Hey back.” Kaden sounds tired. “Sorry you made a mess of yourself.”

“No, you’re not, but nice try. Nothing to be sorry about anyway. It was a nice present,” I smile as if he can see it.

“Yeah? Am I forgiven for turning you down for the weekend plans?”

“It’s fine. It’s my fault for not trying to make plans sooner. I’ve been so busy I haven’t had much time to breathe nevertheless have a personal life.” I sigh, stretching as if talking about it makes my body need rest.

“Is that why Fred isn’t used to sharing you?”

“Hmmm you were paying attention.”

“Always.”

Hearing his voice alone relaxes me. I want more.

“Would it be crazy for me to tell you how much I want to come see you right now?”

“No, because I think I want you here more. Maybe we’re both crazy.”

“Will you be awake in half an hour?” I silently pray he says yes.

“I wouldn’t fall asleep now if my life depended on it.” Kaden makes me a promise. It lights a fire in me.

“See you soon, Angel.”

“See you soon. Drive safely.”

I gather my keys and some things I will need for the morning to work on and head out the door. I stop by the kitchen to check on Gabe and one of the managers still here with him.

“Hey, you okay here? Alright if I leave? I don’t need Saturday off anymore.” I add the latter part, so he doesn’t think Kaden being in my life is going to interfere with my responsibilities as his business partner.

“Yes. Go spend time with your guy. Have some kind of personal life for once.” Gabe knows how solitary I’ve been for years. He’s tried really hard to make me see I could have a personal life while pursuing my dream. I’m glad I never let him convince me, I wouldn’t have met Kaden if he had.

I make it to Kaden’s apartment a little after 11 p.m. I’m hoping he hasn’t fallen asleep. I know he gets up early to go running every day making him have an early bedtime. I knock lightly on his door. When it opens it feels like the loaded weight I’ve been carrying on my shoulders suddenly disappears. Kaden answers the door, sleepy eyed in a pair of baggy bed shorts and nothing else.

He doesn’t even wait for me to come in and steps into me, wrapping his arms around my neck and nuzzles into the crook. I follow his lead, letting him fall into my arms, inhaling his scent and kissing him on the head.

“You look really tired. Let’s get you to bed.” He gives me a little whine that makes my ears tickle.

I start walking forward with him still in my arms. It winds up being too awkward with him walking backwards while half asleep. I do the next best thing, grabbing him by his ass lifting him up to carry him. He instinctively wraps his legs around me. Kaden’s head falls to my shoulder, his lips planting a kiss at the base of my neck. It’s still not easy carrying him with Kaden being a fairly big guy and me not knowing where his bedroom is but I manage to get us there in one piece.

I tap his ass signaling him to release his grip around me in order for me to set him down on the bed. He doesn’t get the hint. I kneel on the bed slowly lowering us both together, sliding the covers away. Once we’re both lying down safely, I kick my shoes off and pull the covers back over us.

Kaden finally releases his grip around my waist, his leg probably uncomfortable underneath my side. I roll to my back and pull him in tight against my side, his head resting on my shoulder, arm and leg slung over my body.

Any sign of tension and stress in my mind and body fall away. Feeling the warmth of his body through my clothes and the soft sounds of his breathing by my ear relaxes me like nothing I’ve ever experienced. My last thought as I drift off to sleep…

Peaceful.

I’ve Never Been So Happy to be Dirty

Kaden

Iwakeuptothesun shining through the gaps in the curtains, my bedside lamp still on, and Luke fully clothed with me wrapped around him like a koala. I don’t want to move and not because I don’t want to wake him. This feels good…right.
