Clarissa ran up behind me and fell to her knees next to her brother. She looked up at us desperately. Vedrac answered.
“He’s not dead, as much as I’d love him to be. I can control myself better than most liches ever try to. He’s just drained. He’ll wake up exhausted and with less hate in his heart.”
My mind turned that over.
“You… ate his hatred?” I asked.
“Yes, it’s very acidic and sort of fermented. Not pleasant at all. I might not be in the best of moods for a few days.”
Heather appeared at his side and wrapped her arms around him, nuzzling into his side. He leaned into her as though taking strength from her. Although I hoped not literally. I reached down for Clarissa and pulled her into a hug. She buried her face in my shoulder. I inhaled her scent and tried not to sway with how intoxicated it made me feel.
“What now?” she mumbled into my fur.
“I’ll take him to the authorities with Vedrac, along with all the evidence we’ve got.”
“And then?”
I heard Vedrac and Heather moving away to give us privacy.
“And then, my love, I’m going to come back and claim you. And we’ll do whatever you want. Nothing else matters but you.”
When I arrived at the police precinct back home with Delaney, there was a group waiting in a line outside the doors. I spotted the huge blue shape of Falkon next to my sister immediately. Vedrac and Heather left the car first and joined the line. I walked Delaney past them slowly. Monsters and humans together. Each one of them staring him down as I delivered him to face justice.
Chapter 16
Clarissa
I felt like I’d slept for a year. The sun was bright in the sky. I reached over and found the bed next to me empty. Sable had slept here the past couple of days. Holding me when I needed it and simply being nearby when I was stuck in my head. The more I’d learned about my brother, the more I’d struggled. He was in jail and awaiting trial. I hadn’t visited him, and I wasn’t sure if I ever would.
I heard cooking downstairs. And for the first time, I found my brain could focus on something other than John. I padded downstairs and wrapped my arms around Sable from behind.
“Good morning,” I purred into his back.
“Good morning. Breakfast?”
“Maybe in a minute.”
He turned off the stove and turned to face me.
“What’s up? What do you need?”
I looked him up and down. For the first time in 2 days, I felt ready. I’d felt desire for him, almost continuously. But he’d told me he wanted to wait until I was ready in my mind. There wasa lot to process, and it would take a long time. But having Sable here with me had brought contentment, even in the face of that.
“I need you. Now.”
Before I could say anything else, he scooped me up and carried me upstairs. He placed me down on the bed gently and stretched out his wings. They were impressive. I sat up and reached for him.
“No. Undress.”
His voice was thick with desire, and it sent a tingle down my spine. I pulled off my pajamas and lay bare on the bed. His eyes roamed over me slowly. The feeling of him enjoying me like this so openly was powerful.
“Touch yourself, Clarissa.”
I ran my hands up my thighs and teased myself a bit for him. His breathing grew heavy. I felt like I was already going to explode before I even touched my clit for the first time. Sable was as hard as a rock for me. I was so wet I wondered if I was making a puddle on the bed. I got the answer almost immediately.
“That’s it. I’ve been dreaming about you making this bed messy while you touch yourself. Slide inside for me.”
I pushed a finger inside myself and moaned, before adding a second.
