Chapter Seven

Morrigan

I saw her leap at me from the corner of my eye and my Krav Maga training kicked in. I reacted, but not quickly enough. For the first time since I was seven, someone was able to land a punch. She hit me hard in the chest. I retreated a step, adrenaline rushing through my body. Screw this! I countered her blow with one of my own, landing a chop to the side of her neck. I heard her laughter as she advanced on me.

Like boxers in a ring, we danced around. She was wearing me out; I knew the technique. No one had ever been able to outlast me; my endurance was often spoken about. But I had only ever battled humans before. I watched her carefully, studying the pattern. Left foot forward, pivot, right foot, pivot, left foot forward. I counted the steps like a marching band member on a field during a show. One and two and three and four. One and two and three and four. One and two and three and my foot came forward, sweeping under hers, landing her hard on the ground. I was actually battling someone with like skill for a change. It was challenging, and I loved it. I smiled, looking at her flat on her back.

Then I was tasting blood. My face hit the ground, and I felt her weight behind me. Blood filled my mouth; my lip was torn. I saw red then.

I spun out from under her and went at her with everything I had. I never realized how much restraint I had shown over the years when battling my human counterparts. I pounded into Kara.

Every bit of emotion that had been building up inside of me for the past several hours came out in my fists, in my feet. I punched, kicked and tossed her around like a baby doll in a toddler’s arm during a tantrum. Several minutes passed as we continued to battle. The sun went down, leaving us in a shadow-filled field.

“That’s enough!” I heard Forseti’s voice in the distance. He sounded far away. It was now dark, and each movement was that much more instinctual. His command didn’t halt my fist. She had been meeting my blows, but I had gotten the upper hand at some point. My knuckles hurt; blood was flowing from both of us. Like a good soldier, Kara stopped. She stood, silently watching me, her only sound the shallow breathing of someone who had exerted a lot of energy. I stalked forward, not ready to end the battle. A victor hadn’t been declared. I wasn’t ready to stop. She didn’t flinch. She stood, stone still.

“I said, that is enough.” Forseti stepped between us and grabbed my raised arm.

I quickly dipped out of his grasp, the adrenaline rushing through my veins telling me it wasn’t enough. “I’m not done! We aren’t done! The fight isn’t complete! There has been no declared victor.”

“I said enough, Morrigan.”

I should have seen the twitch in his jaw. I should have seen the way his eyebrows wrinkled together as he glared at me. I didn’t. All I saw was red. I started to bounce around him on the balls of my feet.

“Morrigan, don’t even think about it,” he growled at me.

“You want to see what I have? You want to test my strength? My agility? Fine. Test it then, oh mighty grandson of Odin, nephew of Thor.” I punched him then, square in the jaw. I saw his head jerk back and for a brief second, I thought I had gone too far. “Oh, I bet you aren’t allowed to hit a girl, unless you are bruising their ass,” I snarled and raised my fist again. He blocked it.

“You aren’t a girl, Morrigan. You are a warrior. You are a valkyrie demigod. If you want to fight, we can fight.” He dropped my fist. I didn’t have time to consider being scared. He lunged forward.

I kicked, punched and moved. We ended up on the ground, wrestling around. He would pin me, but each time I was able to get out of it. Seconds turned to minutes, minutes turned into an hour and we were still going. I was zapped, my muscles were weakening. Lifting my arms was beginning to feel a lot like lifting heavy weights. He continued as if he hadn’t been affected at all.

Soon, I was pinned neatly under him. I realized then, he hadn’t kicked or punched me. Each of mine had landed where I intended, but he never returned the same. He deflected several, took more and worked on subduing me. He let me work out my anger on him.

And subdue me, he had. I wasn’t going anywhere.

“Breathe. Take a deep breath and let it out. Your heart is beating entirely too fast.” He had my arms pinned above my head, his knees were on either side of my hips, his face a half an inch from mine. He lowered his head the rest of the way, meeting my lips with his. After kissing me, he lifted his head again. “I am going to let go of your hands, Morrigan, but I want you to leave them where they are.” He slowly let go, as if he didn’t trust me to obey.

He took his free hand and placed it over my heart. As if a cool wind had swept over my body, the heat dissipated. I felt my heart rate slow and it was easier to breathe. A second later, my limbs lost their heaviness.

“I could have calmed you sooner, but I wanted to feel your power. Besides,” he laughed, adding, “I think you needed this.”

I looked around and realized the women weren’t outside anymore.

“I sent them away about twenty minutes ago.”

I shivered when the inside of his palm touched my cheek. I took another deep breath and ended up breathing him in. His scent was intoxicating to my senses. I wiggled underneath him, reaching up, I grabbed his shoulders and pulled him down to me. Our lips met again. I felt his body as it lowered over mine, Forseti now resting on his elbows to not crush me.

His hardness, a sign that he was as aroused as I was, pressed into my stomach. I lifted my hips off the ground to rub against it, my hand going to the back of his neck. I was the aggressor this time, my tongue desperately searching his mouth for more of him. He broke the kiss.

“Morrigan, if you don’t stop right now, I don’t know if I will be able to prevent myself from ravishing you, right here and right now.”

“Ravishing me? Who says that?” I laughed.

“I’m not joking, little goddess.” The passion in his tone told me as much.

I wrapped my leg around one of his, pulling him down closer to me. “Ravish away, Daddy.”
