“No, not yet.” I squeezed my eyes shut, shocked by his intimacy, feeling thrilled as his finger explored as though gauging its tautness. I flinched at the pressure.

“De Sade has lost his mind.” He removed his finger and ran his hand under the water and then turned off the faucet.

He opened the glass door and got out.

I followed him.

Danton’s cold demeanor remained while he dried himself off. He wrapped a towel around his waist and then refocused on me.

Raising my hands high I let him dry me off and then dress me into a short see-through nightgown. He led me back into the bedroom and again I tried to come to terms with the fact that this would be my private room for a few weeks.

The four-poster bed was rigged out with chains folded neatly above it, silk ties hanging ready from the bedposts. Before my shower, I’d explored the dark wooden cabinet in the corner and had found so many accoutrements I was already acquainted with - and a few I wasn’t.

Danton continued to ignore me while he put on a smart tuxedo, buttoning his pristine white shirt. He slipped into a pair of highly polished black shoes. My master looked so handsome as he arranged his bowtie. He combed his hair, glaring at his reflection as though annoyed with something.

Me, perhaps?

I had, after all, made a scene seconds after arriving. Instead of kneeling before the men of the house I’d gone rogue.

Danton moved with such a refined grace that he was mesmerizing to watch - his masculine control giving him a regal appearance. I didn’t want him to leave. I already felt bonded with him. I trusted him.

And why had he asked me to sign my name in the shower?

“Have I upset you, Master?”

He sat beside me on the edge of the bed. “The contract I was sent had a different signature.”

“I didn’t sign anything.”

“I know that now.”

“What does this mean?”

“These men are ready to devour you.” He turned to face me. “This is not what you want?”

Swallowing hard, I tried to understand why De Sade had done this to me. Was this some kind of revenge? A vendetta between him and Cameron that went way back?

I looked away from Danton, too nervous to answer.

“Shit,” snapped Danton.

“Have I done something wrong?”

He spewed out a string of foreign words that sounded laden with frustration. “Cameron has condemned you for my sake.”

“No, Cameron didn’t want me to come here. It was De Sade.”

“De Sade works for Cameron.”

“Then why would Cameron seem so upset?” I said. “He told me not to get in the car with you.”

He closed his eyes, but not before I saw a flash of pain. “I should never have told them.”

That didn’t make any sense.

A shudder ran up my spine as he looked away from me.

What did he mean? Did Danton have a penchant for doing cruel things to his subs - worse than De Sade?
