“Your girlfriend? Why didn’t y’all stay in the same room?” She raises a quizzical brow and I can’t stop the irritation from showing on my face.
Is she really fucking asking me questions right now?
“That’s not important,” I snap at her. “Please open the door now.”
“I can go in, but I’ll need you to stay out in the hall.”
“Whatever, that’s fine.”
“Guest services,” the manager announces as she knocks once, then opens the door.
The second that it’s open, I fly into the room and look around for Sawyer.
“Excuseme, Sir. I told you you’re not allowed in here.”
I ignore her and walk into the bathroom to check if she’s in there.
Nothing.
Sawyer is nowhere to be found. What the fuck?
I walk to the other side of the bed and look out the window. Could she be outside? That’s when I feel a crunch under my feet. I look down and see Sawyer’s phone smashed into a thousand pieces, and I drop to the floor on my knees.
Daniel.
He was here, I know it.
Fuck!
I feel sick, thinking about what he may have done to her. When I came here last night before dinner, it was right after she texted. I thought the message didn’t seem quite right. It was from him. Not her.
He was here. When I came to check on her.
Oh fuck, he was here.
Bile rises in my throat, and I heave into the empty trashcan under the desk.
That’s why she didn’t open the door. He wouldn’t let her. He was telling her what to say. I swear to God, if he touches one hair on her body, I’ll fucking kill him.
“Sir, are you even listening to me? You can’t be in here.”
“I’m leaving,” I tell her, grabbing the pieces of her cell phone.
Picking myself up off of the ground is nearly impossible. But I need to hurry. I go back to my room and call Carissa from my cell.
“Hello?” she answers sleepily.
“Have you talked to Sawyer since last night?”
“Jackson?” she asks.
“Carissa, she’s gone. She’s not in her hotel room, and her phone is smashed to shit.”
“What? I don’t understand.”
Fucking wake up!
“Carissa, listen to me. I think Daniel came here last night and abducted her. Have you spoken to her since last night?”
