No one wants to talk about Caleph Rojas. Every corner I turn, I’m met with tight lips and looks of disapproval. Even my diehard sources who’ve never let me down stonewall me, telling me to back off when I push. I don’t know where all this loyalty stems from, but this man has it in spades. I can’t even find a decent photo of him, and most sources can’t even tell me what he looks like. I hit roadblock after roadblock until I find a breadcrumb. One tiny morsel…and I run with it.

I put the phone down and throw my pencil at the table in frustration. This is meant to be an exposé, not a one sentence diatribe.

I wake my computer from its sleep and look at the black screen as it comes to life. The screensaver is an overwater hut in the Maldives – the destination I’d dreamed of for our honeymoon once Rand and I were married. The tears threaten to come again, until I slam my finger on the keyboard and go to the computer settings. I won’t commit one more minute to a thought about that jerk. I go in and select a new screensaver. Something dark and destructive. Skulls.

In a proud moment, I mentally pat myself on the back then make myself comfortable as I open a new page and start to type.
