Rhys and the kidnapper fought hand to hand, fists flying faster and faster.
“I think that spell he used to make us freeze was a one-time thing because he hasn’t used it since,” I whispered to Fox as he tried to unwrap the chains from my wrists.
“That’s good to know.” He bared his teeth and tried to use his sword to cut the chains, but the sword bounced off of them.
Nico appeared beside me, expression dark, and looked at the chains with a deepening scowl. “You gave me an order.”
“Because my safety isn’t as important and I knew you’d be conflicted,” I explained.
“Chains won’t come off,” Fox explained.
The kidnapper began to glow and Rhys’s body froze midleap.
“Fox!” I yelled, but he was already moving, attacking the kidnapper to distract him from Rhys.
Nico waved his hands at the chains while whispering beneath his breath.
The chains slackened and then disappeared.
I sighed happily and rubbed at my sore wrists. “Thank you.”
His staff appeared in his hand and both of his eyes became solid black. “Your teleportation training is going to double from now on.”
I was able to teleport, but it was limited and sometimes didn’t work quite right. One time, I’d teleported into Dan’s bathroom instead of the living room like I’d intended.
“Okay,” I agreed.
We both turned and examined the fight happening.
Fox and Rhys worked together, taking turns attacking the kidnapper who strangely didn’t look winded or even worried.
No, he looked pissed.
“Where’s Caleb?” I asked.
“Dan,” he answered simply.
That was good. Dan would have the entire pack in protection mode around Caleb.
Emrys, Rhys’s father and King of the Dragons, flew down to us, shifting out of his dragon form as he landed. “Caleb?” he asked.
“Safe,” Nico answered.
Emrys hugged me. “You almost started a panic.”
“What?” I asked.
“You sent out that fear through your bond. We also worried the worst had happened.”
Whoops.
“I sang,” I explained. “It shouldn’t have gone through the bonds at all.”
“Well, it did. So, more training is in order, obviously.”
“Yes, Father,” I answered, using the title he preferred.
“You’re trying to take him alive?” he guessed.
