I try to swallow down the lump in my throat as he moves closer. He’s wearing dark jeans, and a short-sleeved dark green polo that hugs his pecs deliciously. The shirt magnifies the color of his beautiful eyes.
“Hi.” He grins as he stands beside our table. But his eyes are trained solely on me.
“Hi.” It’s like déjà vu.
Our meet cute.
Sadie and Shay are seated closest to him, both resting their chins in their hands, mouths ajar.
“Here you go, ladies,” Ron says as he slides our tab over to me.
“Thanks, Big Ron,” I say.
“Oh, you’re heading out?” Harrison’s face falls, the expression doing strange things to my insides.
“Yeah. We’ve been here awhile, and I have a big day tomorrow.” I pull out my credit card and place it in the leather holder before returning it to Ron.
Shay and Sadie slide out of the booth, Sadie chasing after Ron with cash for a tip.
Standing beside Harrison, I realize he’s even taller than I thought. With these heels, I’m likely five nine or ten. He’s got to be six foot two, at least.
He clears his throat, almost nervously. “This is going to sound dumb. But I feel like I know you.”
I nod. “Yes.” I laugh. “Well, not the dumb part.”
“But how could I? From up there?” His eyes are simply dreamy. It’s taking all my energy to restrain myself. I just want to reach up and stroke the stubble along his face.
All of a sudden, it dawns on me that he probably doesn’t remember anything from that morning in the ER. Versed is a perfect medication for procedural sedation. It induces sleepiness, decreases anxiety, and causes anterograde amnesia, which allows painful procedures to be tolerated without the need for general anesthesia.
“Have we met?”
I can’t help but giggle as the memory of ourMeet Cutecomes to the forefront of my mind. I’d never lie to this man.
“Yes. Spectacularly.”
CHAPTER TEN
HARRISON
Standing in front of this beautiful girl after all these weeks is surreal. Maybe it’s the regular flirting, or the panty fetish fantasies of her, but I feel as though I know her. But that’s impossible. My curiosity gets the best of me. Feeling foolish, I ask, “Have we met?”
“Yes. Spectacularly.” She beams up at me with laughter in her beautiful eyes.
Shit. That sounds ominous. My shocked expression must have her taking a step back, because the giggling stops and the look on her face appears serious now.
Reaching out, she lays a hand on my good arm. “I was with you in the ER. When all of this happened.” She taps the cast on my injured arm lightly.
My mouth instantly goes dry. “Are you serious?” I’ve been too nervous to approach her at the hospital. Then, with one look, I finally decide tonight is the night, and all the while I’d already met her. I push down the lump in my throat. Hell, she must think I’m a real loser that I can’t remember meeting her before.
Her cheeks flush an adorable pink. “Yes.”
I’m almost certain by the way she’s biting down on that plump lower lip that I completely humiliated myself.
“Damn. It wasthatbad, huh?”
“You were cute.” Her eyes again twinkle as she grins back at me. God, this woman. Her smile. It could rival the sun. “Don’t worry. It’s not your fault. They had to give you a sedating medication in order to set your fracture. Versed causes temporary amnesia.”
“Well, that’s the only way I’d forget finally meeting you. I swear,” I blurt. Get it together, Harrison. This behavior might be worse than admitting you can’t remember meeting. You’re acting like a seventeen-year-old getting introduced to a celebrity crush.
