He scratches his brow like he’s thinking, “The hit likely includes your girl and won’t be complete until she’s dead. I’m sorry, man, but they won’t stop until she’s gone.”

Fuck.

Bones glances at Zade who he hasn’t talked to in years, “How many of them? Any idea? I’ve encountered a few through the years but never all at once.”

He shrugs, “They may have increased in numbers so I’m not sure, but probably around fifteen. They’ve remained small because it’s risky to add more people to the ranks. You never know who you can trust and they’re lethal enough that they haven’t needed more. But it’s possible they’ve grown since I worked for them. They are highly skilled assassins. Bloody Valentine has been known to take out full rooms of armed guards. They are fast and efficient. Do not engage with them lightly.”

Bones rubs his hands together with excitement, “Fifteen. That’s a lot of bones to break.”

Zade laughs, “Still the same vicious asshole, I see.”

He shrugs, “Gotta live up to my name.”

CHAPTER 27

KIERRA

We sit together on a red sofa in Sins library, “Tell me everything,” she says.

Immediately I blush with a sigh. “He’s. I don’t know how to describe him. Everything.”

She gives me a knowing smile. “Sin isn’t exactly hard on the eyes. And boy does the name seem fitting.”

I laugh as I cross my legs underneath me, “It is, although his name is actually Sinclair.”

Scrunching up her nose, she giggles, “Yeah Sin is better than Sinclair.”

I realize this might be my chance to find out information I haven’t had time to ask Sin questions about.

“He said he wants to put a collar on me. I don’t want to be walked around like a damn dog.”

She giggles, “It’s not like that. It’s more of an ownership thing. Which I guess might be like having a dog, but it’s not the same. I’m not collared and we haven’t discussed it, but from what I understand, a lot of Dom’s collar their subs as kind of a visual message to others that they’re taken and committed to their Dom.”

I form an ‘O’ with my mouth, “Okay, that makes sense. He was concerned when he had to make a speech that men were going to descend on me like a pack of hungry wolves.”

Amira rises off the sofa and opens the wine fridge, and grabs two chilled glasses and a bottle of wine. “Wine in the library. I like it.”

She pours me a glass and hands it to me before sitting back down with her own. I laugh, “Help yourself.”

With a shrug she says, “Hey send the submissive’s away and they will play.”

I take a sip of the wine, which of course is flavorful with the perfect amount of sweetness, “So, Zade says you’re in danger.”

With a nod, I admit the truth. “I witnessed my family’s murder and they’ve been after me ever since. It’s why I was at Den of Sin that night. To get enough money so I can get far away from this country.”

She takes a swallow of her wine before asking, “But you aren’t now right? Because of Sin? I don’t know him well but I’m pretty sure he intends to protect you.”

I sigh audibly, “My dad used to say the road to hell is paved with good intentions.”

“Well, according to Zade, Sin is well connected. And that other guy down there, the mobster looking dude.”

I laugh, “His name is Bones.”

She gasps, “That’s Bones?”

I narrow my gaze at her. “What do you know?”

Amira tips her wine glass back while finishing her drink, “Well, they used to all be friends, according to Zade. He’s a lawyer and Bones is a mobster. An actual mobster, and when Zade started working for the prosecutor's office, there were trust issues. It affected their friendship and they just kind of stopped talking, but Sin has always stayed friends with him, I guess.”
