I smirk. “Fine. You talk to Bones, but let me tell you this, when I do, he’ll be more pissed at you than me.”

Chapter Twenty-Four

Bones

Trig takes a sip of his drink after his little confession of never hurting a soul. He leans against the arm of the couch Sweep and I are seated on.

Tony laughs.

“Did I say something amusing to you?” Trig asks him.

“Yeah, Trig. I think you said something funny to all of us.”

“Did I?” Trig asks. “Am I entertaining you?”

“Yeah, I think you’re a fucking comedian,” Tony says as both men start to sound hostile.

“You want me to put on my pig suit and snort around this office, Tony? Would that be funny to you?”

“I’d like to see that,” Tony comes back. “I’d like to see your psychotic ass in a little piggy suit running around on all fours.”

Trig smiles. “Take your clothes off. They just might fit me.”

Tony jumps up, pointing his finger in Trig’s face. “You little cocksucker.”

A smile slowly spreads across Trig’s face and then he reaches out, snapping his teeth together, nearly biting Tony’s finger.

“All right, that’s enough,” Henry says.

“Put your finger in my face again,” Trig says. “I swear I’ll bite it off and watch you choke on it.”

“That’s quite enough,” Paul chimes in, tapping his fingers against his desk.

Trig darts his eyes over to my brother and then looks at me. I nod once. Paul is right. That is enough. We’re here for a reason, and that’s not to throw digs back and forth. This is serious. Sweep and Trig could go to prison for a very long time, and I simply cannot have that.

Slowly exhaling, I look down at my shoes, running my hand across my face. “What is it you want?”

Chapter Twenty-Five

Bexley

I slam the door shut after I walk inside. Tossing my crutches away from me, I knock over a vase. I grip onto my hair, screaming as glass scatters across the floor. Holding onto my head, I breathe heavy before turning to lock my door and leaning back against it.

I recall Carson touching my arm and the way he saidtake care.He makes my skin crawl and my hair stand on end. I don’t trust that man. Surely, Danny can’t either. He has to know he’s lying.Right?

My new phone rings from my pocket, and I slide it out. The driver took me to get it before we visited Samuel’s grave. My old phone was taken from me when Danny and I were kidnapped.

Hello?” I answer.

“Bexley, it’s so good to hear your voice. I’d heard you were back home safely,” Billie, my boss…well, former boss, says.

“I have. I’m sorry I haven’t been in touch. Just a lot going on.”

“Oh, don’t you worry about that. How are you?”

I hobble to my couch before taking a seat, looking over at the broken glass. “I’m fine.”

She doesn’t say anything for a moment, and then I hear her exhale. “I’m sure that’s not true.”
