It hit like a storm, a fury tearing up everything in its path, and it took all I had to not surrender and allow my eyes to close. My muscles pulsed, and Wilder read my body, speeding up his pace, chasing his own release. He pumped in and out, the sound of our wet bodies slapping against each other echoing around the room, before burying himself deep and releasing with a growl.
I’d expected Wilder to roll off and collapse after what he’d just done. Lord knows that’s what Josh always did. But this man was nothing like my ex. Wilder kissed me softly, gliding in and out with a smile on his face as we caught our breath.
“If that’s just the beginning,” I said, “I can’t imagine what it will be like by the end.”
Wilder shook his head. “Maybe there won’t be an end, and things will just keep getting better.”
The next morning I woke to my cell phone ringing. I felt around the nightstand, not ready to lift my head or wanting to open my eyes. Grabbing it, I squinted one eye open and considered ignoring the call. But Elijah would only call back, so I swiped. “Hello?”
“Where are you?”
My other eye opened, and I pushed up to my elbows. “What time is it?”
“Umm… Fifteen minutes after we were supposed to meet at the park.”
I was so confused. “But we aren’t meeting until one.”
“I know. It’s one fifteen, girly.”
I jolted upright. “Are you joking?”
Elijah chuckled. “I really hope you were busy balling all night and it’s not that you were watching aLaw and Ordermarathon.”
I looked over at the man next to me, the one who had kept me up until all hours. “Umm…”
“Fuck yeah!”
Elijah screamed so loud that Wilder’s eyes opened. He looked about as happy as I felt to be awake. I covered the phone. “It’s the middle of the day. I was supposed to meet Elijah for the photoshoot at the park.”
“Is that him?”
I nodded.
Wilder held out his hand. “Let me talk to him.”
“What? Why?”
“Give me the phone, Cupcake.”
I pulled the cell from my ear, but hesitated to hand it over. Wilder plucked it from my hand.
“We’re going to need an hour,” he barked into the phone. “There’s a café at the corner of Cross and Baker, on the southeast side of the park entrance. Go have lunch. It’s on me.”
I could hear Elijah speak, even from where I sat. “Okay, but an hour is a long time. I’m going to need a bottle of champagne with lunch.”
“Have at it.”
“The good stuff. Not the cheap shit that gives you a hangover.”
“You have no budget. Buy the best bottle they have. But you don’t get to give Sloane shit for being late when we get there. Deal?”
“Umm…” I shook my head. “The wordsno budgetare very dangerous to say to Elijah.”
Wilder’s eyes dropped to my bare chest. “Buy two bottles. We might be longer than an hour.”
I wasn’t sure if Elijah responded or not, but Wilder swiped to end the call and tossed the phone over his shoulder. He scooped under me and rolled until I was on top of him. I yelped, but the smile on my face was impossible to hide.
“Now say good morning to me properly.” His voice was deep with morning grog, but it wassodamn sexy.
