Everyone started to move about the room as if everything was normal.
Even Chevy got up and began moving around like he hadn’t had that one weird moment.
I was so invested in watching Chevy that at first I missed the monitors going crazy.
Everyone in the room but one reacted in surprise and started to move toward the patient again.
Chevy stood near the door, watching dispassionately.
And that’s when I knew.
Chevy had just killed a man.
Nineteen
Look, before I work on myself, I need to know if anyone likes me insane.
—Chevy’s secret thoughts
CHEVY
I was in a very bad headspace when I walked out of that surgical suite.
On one hand, I felt like I was justified in what I’d done.
No person, man or woman, deserved to live after they singlehandedly wiped out multiple families. Not when he’d purposefully done what he’d done, thinking that there would be no consequences for him when he was done being stupid.
On the other hand, I knew that there might be some blowback to what I’d done.
If anyone chose to look any further into it, they would probably be able to see that I’d given them too much anesthetic.
But at this point, I didn’t care.
Two of my club brothers’ lives had just been irrevocably changed.
I didn’t fucking care.
I…
My gaze was caught and held by the woman standing there waiting for me.
She had her arms crossed over her chest, and I don’t know who was surprised more.
Me or the woman doing the attacking.
She moved the moment that I stepped completely free of the surgical suite.
One second I had leaden arms, and the next I had an armful of woman.
Sweet smelling woman.
“Aella…” I rasped.
I had no clue what I was asking, but it was like she could read my mind, because she brought her mouth down on mine and whispered, “Kiss me.”
I kissed her.
No man in his right mind would deny Aella Cowan anything.
